GCSE Chem (9-1) - Predicting Products of Electrolysis (Two worksheets plus knowledge organiser)

GCSE Chem (9-1) - Predicting Products of Electrolysis (Two worksheets plus knowledge organiser)

This resource is a must have for Electrolysis revision, classwork or homework. This resource is made up of two worksheets plus answers for both. Students must predict the ions which will be present during an electrolysis of various electrolytes and then decide which ions will be attracted to either electrode. It is supported by a great knowledge organiser which guides students through HOW to predict what will be formed. Knowledge Organiser (written against the Edexcel Specification but easily applicable to others)r. I’ve even included worked answers for the worksheets to save you the bother! (Students may need access to a periodic table and/or a reactivity series which includes hydrogen).

**Whole lesson for the new AQA SOW for the Collins textbooks. ** ECO-FRIENDLY AND PAPER-SAVING LESSON! No printing required as all activities and questions are on the PowerPoint. Lesson will be part of a series of lessons for this chapter on Matter for KS3 Chemistry and follows the new AQA scheme of work, which ties in well with the 9-1 GCSE for AQA. Please check my other resources to access the FREE complete PowerPoint for lesson 1 to see what style this will be. The lesson has many opportunities to engage students with demonstrations and many challenge questions. Graph skills included also as well as analysis and observational skills. IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A LAB: I have included many animations to show the reactions of Group 1 metals and that it can be cut. This is great if you don’t have access to the metals in your school or if home-schooling, but would still like to show your students the properties and reactions. Please buy and support my work, as it will be very much appreciated! Please leave a review and ways to improve my work. Thank you!

OCR Chemistry Revision Mat 9-1 (pgs 1 - 35)

OCR Chemistry Revision Mat 9-1 (pgs 1 - 35)

Hi all! This is a revision mat I created to help my students summarise their work bit by bit to try to keep them on top of the enormous content of the new 9-1 2016 curriculum. Hopefully it will help with revision as it is a great little activity. I contains a mixture of diagrams, calculations, questions, definitions, formulae that are needed and a touch of fun. I will be adding further resources as I create them, this one goes up to page 35 of the OCR textbook. Keep me posted on how it goes! :-)

GCSE Chemistry (9-1)-TOPIC 3 Electrolysis Knowledge Organiser

GCSE Chemistry (9-1)-TOPIC 3 Electrolysis Knowledge Organiser

A great knowledge organiser all boiled down to one sheet. If students know EXACTLY WHAT they need to revise (using the specification checklist) it makes for smarter revision. If they can TEST THEMSELVES to measure their understanding - even better! This resource is a comprehensive but concise knowledge organiser covering… Electrolysis key definitions Predicting the products of an electrolysis experiment (a great flow diagram to make this easier for students!) Half equations Purifying Copper oxidation and reduction

Lab Activity: Ziplock Pressure Chamber & Pouring CO2 Gas to Extinguish Candle!

Lab Activity: Ziplock Pressure Chamber & Pouring CO2 Gas to Extinguish Candle!

Lab Activity: Ziplock Pressure Chamber & Pouring CO2 Gas to Extinguish Candle! See it on TpT This is a really fun lab activity I designed for my 9th grade physical science class, but it can be easily adapted for other grade levels. There is an open flame in the form of one or more candles depending on how you run the room. In the first activity, the students follow procedure and measure baking soda and vinegar, then strategically mix them in a baggie without allowing them to mix until all air is removed and the baggie is sealed. Sit back and watch their eyes when they allow them to mix and they learn what pressure is hands on! In the second activity, they practice measuring the same substances, but this time they create the CO2 gas in a beaker, then pour it down a paper trough to extinguish a candle! It’s a fun challenge, but they absolutely lose their minds when they succeed! The lab includes thought provoking questions about pressure and the density of CO2.

Invisi-Tables! Indirect Evidence Analog for Gold Foil Experiment (Nucleus) Fun!

Invisi-Tables! Indirect Evidence Analog for Gold Foil Experiment (Nucleus) Fun!

Invisi-Tables! Indirect Evidence Analog for Gold Foil Experiment (Nucleus) Fun! See it on TpT This is a really fun lab I made for my 9th grade Physical Science classes, but it can easily be adapted for pretty much any age level where the teacher wants to introduce indirect evidence. The students are tasked with using nothing but the rolls of a marble to discover what is hidden under the Invisi-Table. Where are the objects? How many are there? They actually sketch a picture of what is under it without having to look! It is a perfect low budget way of simulating Rutherford’s gold foil experiment, where here the marble represents the alpha particles that were shot at the gold atoms and the objects under the table represent an unknown structure like the nucleus was to Rutherford during his research. I’ve used it 3 years in a row with great success each time. It is very simple yet engaging and will keep the kids thinking. It is also re-usable every year. The tables themselves don’t take up much room. Includes comprehensive student lab handout and a brief section for the teacher on how to build Invisi-Tables, which includes pictures of all 6 of the ones I have used for 3 years in a row! Materials for each student/group: a standard glass marble, ruler, and lab notebooks or paper. Materials for making Invisi-Tables: Glue gun, approximately 12" x 24" thin boards, 4 rubber stoppers per table for the legs, and some small random objects to glue under the tables themselves. This is definitely worth doing. Please share you experiences with it in the reviews or comments. This file will likely be updated for free in the future. Any updates will be documented here. Thanks very much for your business.

Chemical Bonds Lab: Growing Ionic Crystals! Solutions, Solubility, Saturation

Chemical Bonds Lab: Growing Ionic Crystals! Solutions, Solubility, Saturation

Chemical Bonds Lab: Growing Ionic Crystals! Solutions, Solubility, Saturation This is a lab designed for 7-9th grades where students pick either halite, epsomite, or alum to grow crystals with. The student handout is comprehensive and thorough. Every year I do this lab the kids have a blast. It is designed for the teacher to do the heating for super saturation. I personally use a large griddle of my own to heat several beakers at a time. I recently acquired access to several hot plates and ran this lab by allowing students to do their own heating. It works either way! See it on TpT
