KS3 Spanish Cover Lesson Design your own City

KS3 Spanish Cover Lesson Design your own City

Lesson Covers: How to describe your city (imaginary!) - what's in it and what it has e.g. my city has a king, watchtowers, walls and a dragon. This works best as a cover lesson. It is easy for non-specialists to follow but supports and challenges KS3 students of Spanish well. Could also be adapted for use in lessons by specialists in order to revise 'what's in one's city / town'. It is helpful, but not necessary, if the students have some knowledge of connectives, adjectives and SER / TENER in Spanish. Important key words are provided in each activity of lesson. Dictionaries needed. Lesson involves: Differentiated objectives and starter (quick translation) activity. Activity 1: Teams work to look up words (in Spanish) used to describe what's in a city e.g. murallas, atalayas etc. Next slide gives answers to students so they can write down whatever they were unable to find. Activity 2: Differentiated translation task using key vocabulary they have just looked up in teams. Key words provided as well as higher challenge. Next slide contains answers for peer / self-assessment. Main and final activity: students design and label their own city using key words / sentences they have been working on throughout lesson. Again, this is differentiated by task with key works provided on ppt. Bubble snake review to finish.

Research project (Motivational triggers) for KS3 Spanish - La maquina del tiempo (AQA new spec)

Research project (Motivational triggers) for KS3 Spanish - La maquina del tiempo (AQA new spec)

This is a research project lesson (or two lessons really) that I created for my year 8 Spanish students. The writing example can be easily adapted if more structures are to be added. The idea is to promote independent learning via research. Students have to research information about past or future events that they would like to visit if they were to have a time machine and create a poster or a set of notes. Students decide on the task and start researching relevant information using their iPads/ Chromebooks. At the same time they create a cardboard / paper time machine and produce a piece of writing as per model answer. In the end they stick their written notes / writing around the time machine (or attach it to their poster with researched information). The whole process takes about 2 lessons and is perfect for the end of the topic as you can incorporate all of the structures / vocabulary learned during the term! Note: the writing example is oriented on the working knowledge of conditional tense and related popular expressions. Please let me know if you have any other ideas on how this project can be implemented. If you still have some time left you can enjoy few games I have inserted to simply have fun during the (possibly) last lesson of the year.

El patrimonio cultural: notas de revisión

El patrimonio cultural: notas de revisión

This is the last set of revision notes for the new A Level. It is meant to be a resumé as you can imagine, since the "patrimonio" is such a vast topic. However, I hope that it give grounds for the students to prepare speaking cards, to revise vocabulary and provide some ideas for the individual research project. I will also be publishing revision notes for the second year of the A Level, so please visit my shop again. And if you have missed it, I have an invaluable collection of speaking cards mirrowing the exam. These are also available in TES as cheap as £2 per unit or purchased for the year at £10. If you enjoy my resources, please encourage your colleagues to support me. Many thanks for all your comments. Happy teaching and learning. Blanca.

Spanish AS: Carrousels and Knowledge organisers for festivals, gender's equality and heritage.

Spanish AS: Carrousels and Knowledge organisers for festivals, gender's equality and heritage.

This resource are 3 carrousel activities that you can use in class or for homework. We used them to research some aspects of some of the topics in Year 1. For example, for the gender's equality one, I divided the class into 5 groups and every group had to use the internet to research their topic. I gave them 2 lessons and then in the third one they had to share with the class what they had learnt and teach the others. For the festivals one I also got them to work in groups and then share the ideas. Finally, for the heritage one (which includes famous painters, architects and musicians) they had to reaseach for every lesson 2 people and make some notes. I used this resource as independent learning and they had to do it as part of the homework I gave them. By the end of the unit, they had researched them all and they were able to broaden their knowledge of the culture. I put together teacher versions for 2 of these 3 aspects (festivals and gender's equality) since they were class activities and I wanted to give them extra information.

Translation practice Techniques in El Laberinto del Fauno

Translation practice Techniques in El Laberinto del Fauno

These are three versions of the same exercise on the director's cinematographic techniques. The idea is that you differentiate according to your students' needs. It should help students to revise vocabulary, grammar, sentence formation and the techniques themselves! Please browse my other resources in case if you find something useful. I have recently uploaded some materials for the new AS exam and will continue to do more. Follow me! Enjoy!
