Cecily's Fund Schools' Pack

Cecily's Fund Schools' Pack

Cecily's Fund, a charity which works to educate Zambian children orphaned by HIV/ AIDS, has developed a Schools' Pack. The pack is made up of two resources: The Teachers' Pack and The Fundraising Guide for pupils. Through them, young people are given the opportunity to learn about Zambia, poverty, AIDS and human rights, and to consider their own values and decide whether they want to actively counter ignorance, injustice and intolerance in the world. The pack comprises: - a compelling 9-minute documentary on the orphans of Zambia - a Teachers’ Pack designed to fit in with the government’s programme of Active Citizenship in Schools, about human rights, HIV AIDS, religion, education and poverty, and Zambia - a Pupils’ Fundraising Pack, which teaches pupils the skills needed to work as a team and organise their own charity event. Although intended for 11 to 18 year olds, the pack can be easily adapted for younger children.

Unmuddle the meals

Unmuddle the meals

Unmuddle the meals sets children the challenge to disassemble composite dishes into their basic ingredients, and link these to the Balance of Good Health. It shows how choosing a balance of foods over time can support healthy eating.

Origination: Insite Schools

Origination: Insite Schools

Brilliant website, part of a Channel 4/DCMS Culture Online joint project, encouraging schools to build their own mini-websites exploring cultural diversity, immigration, local history, etc. The project has cross-curricular relevance - free KS3 lesson plans are available for ICT, English, Music, Art & Design and History. The project is also a painless way of embedding ICT across the curriculum - and a way to fulfil the Key Stage 3 ICT Curriculum Objective, Exchanging Information.
