National storytelling week - dynamic story generator powerpoint

National storytelling week - dynamic story generator powerpoint

Children choose the course of the story in this dynamic story-telling PowerPoint. I originally wrote this for an assembly in National Storytelling Week and had huge fun with the whole school choosing which characters, setting and plot developments to follow. The children showed me via hands on heads or crossed arms which options they wanted to pick. The children were incredibly excited and engaged; I really enjoyed the assembly. If you miss off the first two slides about National Storytelling Week, this resource could also be used in an English lesson to look at story structure, character, setting and/or the use of descriptive language, e.g. adjectives and similes. Or simply use it in class as an enjoyable story to revisit and retell, allowing the children to make different choices to build a different story. I've tested the PowerPoint thoroughly (including in assembly and at home with my own daughter!) as there are a lot of action buttons to click on that lead you to the next slide in the chosen story. However, if I've missed anything, please do contact me via TES conversations and I will straighten it out asap. PS The fonts don't look very good on the preview pane on the TES website, but should be fine when downloaded. I created the resource using PowerPoint 2016.

Challenge and overcoming them to achieve and be successful

Challenge and overcoming them to achieve and be successful

This assembly focuses on students looking at how we and the world prejudge people, situations, events, lessons, experiences based on the "whats in front of us" rather than what is beneath the surface. Oskar Schindler - prejudged as a German, doing awful things to Jews yet he was actually helping them Stephen Hawking - prejudged by the way he looks, yet is the most intelligent man!! The clips link to susan boyle - prejudged but went on regardless and achieved James arthur - difficult home circumstances and troubled start but again went on to achieve Ussain Bolt - assumptions he would win, but other athletes still tried and Ussain came 3rd! Goes onto audience participation - i had two teachers all with food covered in chocolate (cheese, garlic, pasta etc) and pretended it was foul things (a bit like bush tucker trial!) and had a chocolate coin at the end for them - the point of it being that sometimes life, lessons, work, experiences are hard and not great, but to get the end prize the grade, the result, the overcoming of fear, that we have to go through these things to be better!). Music is "we could be heroes"

Draw a Tree / Journey of Life - Fun psychological tests!

Draw a Tree / Journey of Life - Fun psychological tests!

Two fun psychological tests that the students love! Journey in Life - Try to get your group as relaxed as possible and ask them to close their eyes and listen to you. Set the scene of a day in the country. They are just about to start out on a walk. Ask them to imagine each of the following in turn, and each time write down what they saw in their imagination. Tell them they should write down the first image that comes into their head – not think about it for too long. After they have written down each description you can interpret their images using the ideas below. DRAW A TREE - Give each student a blank piece of paper and ask them to draw a tree. Tell them they are not to ask any questions about how to draw it – it is up to them. Then take in all the drawings and display them on the floor or where they can all see them. You may be able to group them at this stage. The following are possible interpretations of their drawings – they could make up their own interpretations!
