Cuboid and Prism Volume Problem Solving 2

Cuboid and Prism Volume Problem Solving 2

A second collection of challenge materials for KS3 or great revision recaps for KS4. Best used away from lessons surrounding geometry to add the extra element of problem solving that they need to practise. NB. Use of Pythagoras also the formula for the volume of a sphere if they have not covered it.

Pythagosaurus Rex - prehistoric Pythagoras Problem Solving!

Pythagosaurus Rex - prehistoric Pythagoras Problem Solving!

Continuing the dinosaur theme I made this for my very bright top set year 8 class, although it has worked very well with higher tier GCSE classes also. Students need to work out the perimeter of the different prehistoric creatures that are made from triangles, rectangles, circles etc. There is a class example Pythagosaurus Rex with a scaffolded printable answer sheet. There is also a spot the mistake task to address any misconceptions with Pythagoras before attempting the main sheet.

Treegonometry - problem solving with trigonometry, Pythagoras and trees!

Treegonometry - problem solving with trigonometry, Pythagoras and trees!

My GCSE higher tier class loved this so it was well worth all the effort put into making it. Really applicable to the new GCSE specification, you need to work out the area of six trees of increasing difficulty, made from triangles, rectangles, parallelograms and trapezia. Included is the worksheet in PDF and also Microsoft Publisher format, and a class example on Microsoft Powerpoint.

Fun revision activities for GCSE Maths

Fun revision activities for GCSE Maths

Two sets of 12 cards for students to cut up, solve and then place cards in ascending/descending order of solutions. A multiple choice activity - where each answer gives a letter. The full set of letters can be rearranged to spell the name of a band, and finally a cross number all covering multiple topics Just a slightly different way to get students to look at revision. A range of grades to allow access for all from beginning.

Fun revision activity for GCSE Maths

12 cards for students to cut up, solve and then place cards in ascending order of solutions. Just a slightly different way to get students to look at revision. A range of grades to allow access for all from beginning. When I use this with my class, I get students to work in pairs. I also give them paper to stick the cards on once order is complete and get them to write their working around the outside. I have found students to be much more engaged than if they were just given a page of questions. The 12 included topics are: Solving linear equations x's on both sides, fractions with negative fractional powers, Pythagoras' theorem, finding area of a triangle (using 1/2 absinC), median of a box plot, HCF, Percentage loss, standard form, area of a sector, circle theorems, mean of grouped data and range from stem and leaf diagram. Most of the included topics are around the higher/foundation borderline.
