Learn Mandarin The Fun Way!

Are you learning or teaching Mandarin? I have developed different worksheets and 57 pictures of different settings you can talk about in class. I based my work on an ESL pack I developed and thought it could be equally effectively used for different languages. The worksheets are in English and your students need to find the Mandarin equivalents. There is an end of lesson fun game where the students show their knowledge in a game of Bingo.

Unit 2: Animals Lesson 2-2: Animals, numbers 1-10, age Vocabulary: 岁 (measure word for age),兔子 (rabbit),鸡 (chicken),鱼 (fish),六 (6),七 (7),八 (8),九 (9),十 (10) (total: 39 words) (total number of characters: 41) Differentiation: 牛 (cow), (total: 42 words) (total number of characters: 53) Objective 1: Recall a total of six animals studied (seven for more able speakers) Objective 2: Recall the numbers from 1-10 in Mandarin Chinese Objective 3: Recall how to express one's age in Mandarin Chinese Present each item of vocabulary and the students repeat each item. National 5 Exam Vocabulary (Collated)

The sources of this booklet are Intermediate 2 NABs, National 5 Unit Assessment Support Packs, Specimen Question Papers and all the past papers from 2008 to 2015. This collated booklet has 1240 words in total. Chinese, English and Pinyin information is provided for easy revision and import into Quizlet and Memrise. In addition, there is an extra page at the end which helps pupils track their own learning progress as they tackle each topic. Teachers may also use the tracking sheet to check their pupils’ revision. The vocabulary list can be used for teachers to plan S3/S4 lessons so that pupils are better prepared for the National 5 exam. Pupils can also use it as a revision tool in order to systematically study for both internal and external assessments. In addition, teachers may develop classroom activities based on this vocabulary booklet for S1/S2 pupils.
