Benjamin Zephaniah Reading Guide

Benjamin Zephaniah Reading Guide

This Resource Pack is based on Gangsta Rap and Refugee Boy, two novels by the author, performance poet and all-round teachers’ favourite. We know that you’re probably familiar with him already; you might even teach books by him as part of your KS3 curriculum – but this pack is designed to give you new ideas to support your planning, or to serve as a general introduction to the themes in his work. What’s more, it coincides with the publication of two beautiful new editions of both titles, showcasing how in today’s society Zephaniah’s voice is even more relevant, powerful and important than ever.

AFTER A VISIT TO AUSCHWITZ

AFTER A VISIT TO AUSCHWITZ

The bundle represents 7 poems, written the day after a visit to Auschwitz, and a personal commentary on how the poems came about. The poems and commentary can be used in class to reflect on the lessons of Auschwitz and the holocaust, and of course to investigate the power and form of poetry. The commentary might lead to some useful discussion and reflection on the creative process. All proceeds from the sale of this bundle will go in full to the Holocaust Educational Trust.
