This is a longer lesson on Islam, it serves as an introductory outlining the history and cultural setting before moving on to look at Sunni and Shi’a Islam. There are a few embedded videos to make things more interesting and the final activity can be adapted to make it more creative or dynamic (carousel) as the info sheet is included.

This lesson covers the nature of God in Islam, it looks at the nature of God as ‘one’ , and explores why there are no images of God. There are a number of questions and activities included in the power point.

This lesson looks at the 99 names of God, as well as exploring the ideas of God’s immanence and transcendence. There’s a number of activities to choose between, I used the debate one as a table debate and had them circulating and writing on the table with the whiteboard pens!

I’ve set this up as a carousel lesson, it’s designed to be taught in one big double lesson but you could break it up. There is a worksheet pack and some source material, I also used text books to help them but they could use the internet instead. It covers the prophets named on the AQA Spec.

This lesson covers Ashura from Shi’a Islam, an interesting and evocative topic, great for class discussion. There are also exam style questions in the power point.

I focus the majority of this unit on Christianity as there is enough diversity to fulfill the exam requirements. However, it does still include Islam when appropriate. This lesson contains lots of information slides, ideal for home learning/revision. Easily adaptable into active learning strategies for your teaching style.

This worksheet was designed for the RE classroom as a way of helping students to develop their critical thinking and discussion skills (necessary for higher marks). It's quite simple but works really well and highly adaptable. Each finger can be used as a different point. The students then write inside the hands (something they find strangely enjoyable). This helps them see and remember what they have written and what they can then add. It helps them to plan answers as well as generate ideas for discussion. Each hand is for/against. Thanks!
