Here is a simple activity to reinforce or teach letter recognition. Children find the vowels in grid one and colour them the appropriate colour to match the boxes. This is a fun activity for young children learning to recognise their numbers from 1 to 10. Each number has a colour box. Children locate the numbers and colour them the same as the box. They could then count how many of each number they found. This is a lesson I used based on observing fruits, especially lemons with the children. Links to patterns in nature, fruits, plants, colour and pattern. Sheet 1 gives 8 examples of how 1 ‘slice of fruit’ can be coloured in different ways. Sheet 2 is black and white showing the 8 ‘slices’. Sheet 3 shows 2 large ‘slices’. This activity can be linked to seasons, with children using e.g.Autumn colours or cold colours for winter.
