DIRT Sheet

Resource I developed as students did not have space in books for green pen (DIRT work) these were used as sheets to glue in book on the relevant page, they could then be re-graded and lifted up to show the original piece of work underneath. Shows progress and reflection.

DIRT Sheet

(0)
A double sided DIRT (Dedicated Improvement and Reflection) sheet - primarily aimed at younger years and lower ability. The prompts on one side guide the student through responding to feedback and improving their work through this feedback, as well as this it encourages them to identify the changes made and reflect on how they can continue that level of work. On the reverse side - there is a focused spelling correction sheet that can serve as a more organised way of having students correct their spellings instead of being messily corrected throught their books.

Worms in the Dirt

Primary mathematicians first model “put together” and “take apart” situations using concrete objects, drawings, etc. These concepts are then expanded to composing and decomposing numbers additively. A connection to students’ prior work with building sets is important as students are developing fluencies with their addition and subtractions facts. Children need many opportunities to experience these situations. Incorporating seasonal manipulatives allow children to practice these mathematical ideas in a contextual setting. To effectively facilitate these activities, be sure to cover the common addition and subtraction situations found in Table 1, CCSSM, page 88. Color masters are provided for both activities, the seasonal objects as well as the counters. Hyperlinks are also provided for manipulatives when applicable. This resource is useful for students with Dyslexia and language-based learning deficiencies. We'd like to hear about your experience with our resources. Just give it a star rating then tell us what you think, simple as that!

DIRT self reflection lesson

Activity I used with my high ability year 10 class - trying to encourage them to think about skill development, rather than simple knowledge acquisition. Used an intro to highlight why metacognition and self-assessment are important parts of learning. Students then used a sheet to write down their learning high points and improvement points for these topics. Then looked back through the end of unit test and formative comments in their books - made improvements/corrections to their work and noted these down in steps taken. Sheet glued in for me then to respond to, giving them targets for the next topic, as well as effort and test grading.

Included in the resource is: the assessment question with scaffold to remind pupils how to respond to the Q. a DIRT lesson that includes a model answer, a model annotation of a single quotation, and then a selected quotation for pupils to then annotate themselves (with the focus on, ‘a lot from a little’ ). DIRT Feedback AFL

(2)
Easy to use DIRT feedback and evidencing progression sheet which uses Bloom’s matched to the new 9-1 GCSE gradings. Can be used for any KS3 or KS4 subject. It’s really quick for marking. To use - Highlight the skill they’ve used, e.g ‘you have explained the meaning of key phrases such as ……’ Highlight what they could do next to improve, e.g ‘evaluate (judge and assess) the most important reasons.’ Highlight their ‘do it now’ task, such as 'Write a detailed conclusion evaluating (add in subject), considering (add in item) and weighing up the pros and cons of each, reaching a conclusion, with exceptional SPAG. On the same page their is a green-shaded box for them to demonstrate immediate progress through the ‘do it now’ task. They can then stick it in their books and you can return to see it or show it as evidence any time! This works for any subject which involves any sort of assessed writing tasks. It has literally saved me weeks worth of time over the years. Many more inexpensive and free resources at here.
