This is a project based Humanities assessment which focuses on students researching an inspirational figure and creating a project. It provides step by step expectations.
A KS3 lesson on the abolition of the slave trade. This lesson asks students to consider the construction of historical interpretations, then uses a card sort to ask them to factorise key information regarding the causes of abolition. Students are set an assessment on who was responsible for abolition - a mark scheme is attached. This mark scheme is based on a level system but I have written examples below each level, which can be used with students (in feedback activities) to help them see the difference between different levels of complexity in historical explanation.

This resource contains 2 baseline assessments and two mark schemes for history transition from year 6-7. The first test examines knowledge and understanding, and tests students on their knowledge of historical methods and the Second World War (KS2 topic). It is fully differentiated and examines recall and key second order concept understanding.
The second assessment is a skills assessment which evaluates students’ ability to use source materials. They are required to demonstrate key skills such as making inferences; comparing sources; assessing reliability. There are a wide range of written; pictoral and photographic evidence to evaluate on the papers testing all of their skills as well as written sources.
They are accompanied with mark schemes and guidance on performance.
I use these tests to inform planning and differentiation for the year.

Women WW1 – Assessing Sources
This is one of several lessons that I have uploaded on the role of women in WW1 for GCSE History pupils. All of the lessons can be taught together, but each covers a topic so can also be picked up separately. For ease of locating, the title stem is the same: 'Women WW1'. This is a full PowerPoint lesson, ready to teach, but you will want to adapt it / update it for your own context and any resources are also uploaded with it. This lesson explores the use of sources and gets pupils to examine which sources are reliable and which aren’t.
A range of History Assessments for Years 7-9.
Included is assessments sheets with various levels of activities and booklets for pupils to complete their answer in. There are also some help sheets.
The assessments are leveled in relation to a school policy but can be adapted.
Year 7 Focus - Romans and Vikings
Year 8 Focus - Building an Empire
Year 9 Focus - WW1
This is a source based assessment in which students look at a source about King John, and decide how accurate it is.
A writing frame and mark scheme is included. The mark scheme applies NC levels, but can easily be converted to GCSE-style grades.
A really useful mini assessment to use at the beginning or end of a History unit on the Ancient Greeks. Used in KS2 in a Year 5 class but could be used from Year 4-Year 8. Engages the children with images, timelines, true or false questions etc.
