Ace your NPQSL! Summative Assessment Task.
Having successfully completed an NPQSL course in December 2024, I would like to share the summative assessment task that led to gaining the qualification.
**I want to clarify that the case study itself was authored and provided by the course provider, and as such, I do not hold the rights to publish or share it publicly. **
The task example was written in response to a scenario where you are a newly appointed senior leader at a school facing significant challenges - including poor attendance, low attainment, and behaviour issues in a disadvantaged area.
The task was to critically assess the situation, identify the key issues, and propose solutions underpinned by educational research and proven practice. The intention was to present a clear and structured response that could serve as a strong example of strategic thinking and leadership.
The task was divided into the following 3 subheadings:
Identify Problems (10% of marks)
Identify solutions (40%) and set out the rationale for your chosen solutions (15%)
Implementing your chosen strategy(ies) (35%)
I scored highly on the NPQSL Summative Assessment Task, demostrating strong leadership and strategic thinking.
The task did not exceed 2500 words and although this scenario might not be directly applicable to your assignment task, the structure, reasoning and references will give you an example to build a winning summative assessment task.

Resource details what type of tasks count towards each objective for the Edexcel GCSE Specification in Art and Design.
Students and teacher can in different pens tick the appropriate box- have they completed no work towards, minimal, secure or in depth amount towards that objective.
You can then tally up how many grades you got in each section and therefore clearly see in each AO where students are struggling.
You can then convert the grades on to the grid- so majority of minimal amount would be 2/3 grade. Secure- 4/5/6 and in depth 7,8,9 grades.
There are then four boxes where student and teacher can write in clearly what tasks need to be complete to improve each assessment objective.

Ready to scale up your whole class feedback and WOW at your next marking trawl…
This assessment framework follows a TMARKS assessment structure and feedback can be given for one of six key scientific categories.
There is also a section to make a “SHOUT OUT” to students who gave great answers and a “NEXT STEPS” section, where a choice of activities can be given, allowing student to move their learning on.
For details on the TMARKS system see below
T - Terminology - Here you feedback on key terminology
M - Maths - Here you feedback on what mathematical skills
A - Application - Here you feed back on how student apply their knowledge to unfamiliar situations.
R - Reading the question - Here you feed back on where student may have missed information or misunderstood the question
K - Knowledge - Here you feedback on areas of strength and knowledge gaps that may exist
S - Scientific experimental design - Here you feedback on question that focus in on experimental design or interpretation

Do you find it difficult to keep track of which children know which maths skills?
I definitely did - but this spreadsheet has been a complete game changer!
White Rose Maths has so many small steps to follow, and this assessment tracker makes it so much easier to monitor progress clearly and simply.
Fully editable
Easy to use
Perfect for ongoing assessment
Simply enter:
N = Not Met
Y = Met
S = Intervention Given
The spreadsheet will automatically colour-code each response to make tracking progress quick and visual.
You can update assessments as children learn new skills during teaching inputs or as skills develop naturally through provision.
One of my favourite features is the comment section, where you can add notes, evidence, or details about interventions for each child.
A simple way to stay organised and keep assessments manageable!
This is an Initial Assessment for Functional Skills English
It is designed to be completed by a learner, to enable tutors to gain an indication of their current level of functionality.
There needs to always be a diagnostic assessment following this so that
a Tracking Sheet can then be completed by a tutor/teacher to provide an overall view of the learner’s skills and allows for a “spikey profile”.
The English Tracking sheet has been made available - look at our shop.
