This is an afternoon of activity on a Snowflakes theme - used to kick off our unit on The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe - Always Winter but Never Christmas - and provide instant display. 2D shape, reflective symmetry, rotational symmetry, art and craft skills, science, geography - truly cross-curricular - and children are usually fascinated by 'Snowflake Bentley'...hope you like the ideas...let me know. PS. Making snowflakes took longer than allotted time - continued next day in Maths.
This is a Reading Comprehension packet to go along with the Magic Tree House Book #6: Afternoon on the Amazon. I have used it with First and Second grade students. There is a cover page to make each student a packet, along with a comprehension page for each chapter. There is a page to preview the book and a page at the end for the students' thoughts on the book.

I have used the packet with both a small group of students and with a whole class at one time. You can differentiate when you use the packet. The more independent students can work on the book and packet on their own or with a partner, while you work with the students who need more direction and help.

In the packet, I have included different types of reading comprehension questions and activities, such as Text-to-Self (text, world) connections, Predicting, Visualizing, Character Traits, and different styles of questions.

I have the packet for Book #1 listed for FREE so you can see what a packet is like. Each packet I have made is specific to the book, so they are a little different, but you would get the general idea.

Thanks so much for looking!

Magic Tree House Word Problems-Afternoon on the Amazon by Holly Hawley is licensed under a .
This resource contains a Good Afternoon Work Book / Greeting Book that is a great activity to use on a daily basis with your student(s). This book will help students to settle down and get ready to focus for their afternoon work. Many students may struggle with the transition in the afternoons, especially after playtimes, so by providing this work book as anchor in their daily afternoon routine, it will help them to settle quicker.

It is individualised so each student can have their own copy.

The document comes as a keynote or powerpoint file.

You can add on different wording and add pictures of your student etc. but please note you will not be able to add/change/extract any form of clipart/imagery/text from this document. This is to protect our fabulous clip artists and myself as a teacher-seller.

This is a harder, newer version of my Good Afternoon greeting book. This one encourages students to be able to write their answers (you can also add text to it for them to overwrite if they are not yet at the level of independent writing) but continue to also choose symbols for the answer.

All symbols are also included at the back of the page, you will need to add some of your own, i.e pictures of staff etc

A walkthrough is also included to explain how to use the greeting book to it's best potential.

The questions that this greeting book ask are;
♦ my name
♦ how do I feel?
♦ where do I live?
♦ when is my birthday?
♦ how's the weather?
♦ what should I wear?

Worksheet 2 - Gives the names and descriptions seperately for children to match up (medium)

A list of activities, statutory requirements and resources for English, Maths and afternoon lessons. These have also been put into year groups, therefore there is a wide range (some may cross over). For English, I have listed only a few suggested activities but each one shows how it is linked to the National Curriculum (shows it has purpose if teachers or Ofsted come into your classroom). For Maths, there are so many tasks/activities you can do, therefore I have put down the statutory requirements that you can look at and create and activity from. I have made some resources/worksheets to go with some of the activities. Again, these are only suggestions. Hope it helps!

A couple of English resources based on English skills. These have a little freedom for the pupils to write independently then share what they've written. I use these in afternoon registrations while I run interventions.

These planning sheets contain a basis for planning in a nurture group. They show afternoon planning assuming that mornings will be for core subjects. There are links back to boxall targets and activity suggestions from beyond the boxall profile. There are also independent activities that link back to this.

Cave painting but with a difference...Starter, teaching input and reflective plenary instructions all included on the PowerPoint. Full colour real cave painting images in A4 and A5 size, reflective self-evaluation worksheet and writing extension activity for early finishers all included in the Learning Activities pack. This stunning, yet easy to teach, cross-curricula lesson will be memorable for your class for years to come and can potentially create huge, beautiful works of art for display - but with very little mess! This is no ordinary cave painting/art lesson as children will use and develop a wide range of artistic and cognitive skills as they are required to copy the style yet also creatively imagine what else might be there. Full instructions included in the concise Teachers' Notes.

A great way for a new class to get to know each other. Perfect for mixed-age classes who are meeting for the first time. I used this during transition afternoons and had new friendships forming by the end of the session. Enjoy!

Holidays are a time to relax and rejuvenate, this booklet includes a number of suggestions (9 games, 12 activities, 13 crafts and 8 recipes) you can enjoy with your family on those wet afternoons or just to fill five minutes - Some could also be adapted to use in the classroom when the rain brings play indoors.
This scheme of work was written to support teachers in my school with teaching maths/investigation. The scheme is suitable for PMLD, SLD and ASD students and gives examples of activities for students on all levels (P1 to P8 and Level 1) which can be easily adapted. The scheme of work supports the curriculum topic Kings and Queens.
This easy to teach cross-curricula art lesson comes complete with starter, teaching input, full colour images and reflective self-evaluation plenary worksheets, plus an optional writing activity for early finishers. PowerPoint teaches children about Stone Age use of fur, putting the lesson within an easily understandable historical context. Children test technique before committing to their final work which, when mounted, would make an outstanding display. Pastels and pencils are the recommended art technique but other techniques can also be applied. Could be taught in an hour if needs be or extended to a whole afternoon or morning. Part of a 6 lesson complete unit of Stone Age art and design/DT available to buy from the TES.

A perfect time filler if you want a calm and relaxing afternoon in your class
An independent art activity for children aged 7-16

This lesson is fully resourced for a class of 32

Simply spend 5 minutes going through the introductory PowerPoint
Print out the set of 32 animal zentangle designs and a resource sheet for each child, give them a black felt tip or fine liner, play some relaxing music and you’re away

I have seen this lesson calm the fussiest of classes - the children love it and are totally absorbed for the afternoon

Try one yourself, it’s addictive!
