This worked better than I had planned, with my middle school class as a reinforcement and enrichment.
6 paragraph reading that reviews producers, decomposers, consumers (herbivores, omnivores, carnivores) and biotic & abiotic factors of an ecosystem.
Students read the passage which explains what the above key terms are and takes them through a written journey of energy transfer through different organisms in a food web by going into detail what gets its energy from what.
After the reading students must list from the passage (all are in bold in the passage)
5 abiotic items
3 decomposes (and a vulture)
After they complete this side on the back is a full food web that they must fill in using the 26 organisms and 5 abiotic items from the passage, I provide a key to the food web. However there can be more than one correct way to complete the web.
