The British Cultural Values Year 3, 4, 5 & 6 teachers’ resource pack is produced by specialist education poets (and Poet Laureates) Matt Windle, Dreadlock Alien and Kurly McGeachie - each with over 10 years experience of enriching literacy development and engagement in schools throughout the U.K. Demands for ‘British Values’ workshops increased hence they put together this helpful set of resources and activities for primary teachers to use. The pack spells out various activities to support the teaching and learning of the four core ‘British Values’ themes as well as develop literacy confidence and curricular progress through performance poetry. Each Year group explores a different ‘British Value’ i.e. Year 3 ‘Respect’, Year 4 ‘Tolerance’, Year 5 ‘Rule of Law’ and Year 6 ‘Democracy’, they produce poems, work on performance and end with a performance showcase or what’s known as a ‘poetry slam’. Our Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/Britishculturalvalues/) provides free walkthrough videos for each Year group section of the pack to give teachers extra support and guidance. The ‘Individual Liberty’ and ‘Performance Tips’ videos apply to all pupils to help bring out the best from them based on their individual strengths, so be sure to watch those too! We look forward to responding to any thoughts or questions you may have about the pack so please feel free to add yours in the comments section below.
