**Task 2: Validation **
Students will need to understand how to include appropriate validation when designing and creating a database. This presentation gives simple examples that students will be able to build on based on a Gym example. No data has been entered, as this is something that students may do themselves once they have amended or adapted the validation rules.
The accompanying database includes examples of the following validation:
• Range Check
• Presence Check
• Format Check
• Type Check
• Length Check
There are examples of basic input masks in the database which students will also be able to build on. A list of the most common types of masks are in the presentation and students are encouraged to experiment with the different types to understand when they should be used.
There is an expectation that students will know how to set up “Value” and “Table” Lookups using Access. In the example are one of each. Bear in mind for this example, the concept of normalisation has been ignored.
