Emma Watson's speech on gender equality
In this activity students analyse Emma Watson's recent UN speech on gender equality. The speech is beautifully written and is an excellent example of the effective use of persuasive language. It would be worth asking students to watch the speech on youtube first and then to discuss the purpose of the speech. There is also a supporting sheet (at the end of the document) that lists a number of rhetorical devices for students to watch out for. This activity would also be useful for leadership development programs.
