One of the best ways to learn math is with hands on, fun inquiry that engages the kids in the concepts involved. This CCSS aligned, differentiated geometry lesson delves into the properties of 2 and 3 dimensional shapes and their angles. The academic language is clearly presented with colourful posters, practice problems and many opportunities through activities with pretzels and marshmallows to grasp the concepts and practice the skills. The academic language is used in all of the teaching materials along with specially created vocabulary cards.
The lesson has been used with my 4th and 5th grade students in the past but can easily be adapted for 3rd through 5th grades.
• 10 colored vocabulary cards for academic language
• 6 different, hands on tasks, crafts and activities
• Worksheets for practise with classification and identification of properties.
