This is a one-off lesson, using surrealism as a starting point to create a graphic design-based digital outcome. This lesson does not require specialist software, but does require computers and access to the internet. The free, online software that is used, can be accessed at www.photopea.com. Photoshop files as well as jpeg images can be saved and downloaded.

An ideal cover lesson, blended learning or homework task, this lesson includes:

  1. A step by step tutorial which can be printed and given to students as a hard-copy or uploaded as a PDF;
  2. A video tutorial which goes into more depth and detail about tools and processes;
  3. Secondary resources of portraits and clouds;
  4. A powerpoint slide to display during the lesson.

Stock images are provided, but primary source images could be collected by students, and used to develop their skills further.

This is an ideal KS3 lesson, but can be adapted for KS4. Check out my other resources for adaptions or get in touch.

You will need the following resources for the lesson:

  • Printed tutorial, or saved to a shared area;
  • Headphones to listen to the video audio;
  • Secondary source images, saved to a shared area;
  • Cameras where appropriate and paper for printing, if required.
