Welcome, Traveller, to Hekalu La Kimya…

Transform your classroom into an ancient temple in this high-energy, collaborative spelling and etymology challenge. Pupils work as a class to uncover a sacred hoard by piecing together hidden word fragments to form 10 correctly spelt words, each matched to its etymological clue.

This immersive activity focuses on the spelling pattern ‘ph’ making an /f/ sound and encourages teamwork, discussion and strategic thinking but can be adapted for any spelling pattern. Word-pieces and clues are secretly placed around the room but movement is carefully controlled by a timer and game rules to keep pupils focused and engaged.

In each round, the class must decide which word-piece they need and send one Treasure Hunter to retrieve it while avoiding capture by a roaming rival from the Imperial Museum. Caught pupils must be freed before re-joining the game which adds a layer of extra challenge without chaos.

Suitable for KS2 and KS3 support lessons.
