I run science workshops (www.wildworkshops.co.uk) on Habitats and Minibeasts, here is a powerpoint you could use to help to introduce your topic or maybe some minibeasts you have found. The opening slide is useful for ascertaining children's prior knowledge, do they know the names of any of these local creatures? What eats what? Can they make a simple food web with the creatures on the slide?
Focus on how habitats affect the way animals look and live. Discuss, using images of animals.
Look for minibeasts, notice and record the habitat in which they are found. Explore other habitats through ICT.
Suitable for Y2 pupils.
Find other lesson plans and resources at www.hamilton-trust.org.uk.
An A4 page in black and white, that students of any age can colour in for fun, or as part of a lesson or topic. Can be photocopied once downloaded.
