Make number analysis fun! Number Talk is a fun version of my popular drama circles! Multiplication and the related vocabulary is a large part of math throughout the year. This activity is a hilarious way to get the children really thinking about their knowledge of multiplication, mental math and multiples and factors using the academic language. Use it as a skills review any time of the year. These printable cards are just one of my drama circle activities that I use to practice the trans- disciplinary skills of cooperation, social and communication to name a few.
This drama was designed for my 5th graders as a fun review of the speaking and listening strands and our CCSS Math standards. It can be used with 4th grade too. Each child has a number card depending on the skills that you are working on and the level that the child is within math. So easy to differentiate. They then have to listen to the inquiry cards, analyse their number and see if it fits with the inquiry. For example: If you have a number that could be a factor of 28, then you will hop around the circle as if your feet are burning! “T his is developing listening and thinking skills as well as communication and presentation . Not every card requires speaking; some ask only for miming.
There are 52 number cards and 36 inquiry cards within this packet and an instruction card. The drama cards can be used with 3rd-6th grade and used within a whole class scenario or smaller groups, where the children are given several cards to read and act from.
The concept of drama circles is a great ice breaker or a fun review of the IB skills and attitudes.
