Operation Outbreak is a set of four Key Stage 2 lesson plans focused on infectious diseases.
Activity 1 - Prevent the spread! looks at how an infectious disease might spread from a school into the local community. It then facilitates a discussion about preventative measures, with a strong emphasis on hand-washing.
Activity 2 - Public health responders looks at some of the different roles within public health, by considering a response to an infectious disease outbreak.
Activity 3 - Menacing microbes focuses on some of the well-known bacteria and viruses which are responsible for illness.
Activity 4 - X Fever provides guidance on how to run a sticker infection across the school.
The activity plans link to Science, PSHE, Geography, English, ICT and Maths. Also provided are suggestions for additional activities, and additional information to provide potential extension topics or background reading. Each activity has an accompanying PowerPoint slide containing images, learning objectives and key points.
These resources were originally created for use with supplementary physical resources that come in rucksacks. In order to increase the reach of these electronic resources they have been made available here for use independently of the rucksacks. If you would like to assemble your own rucksack, there is an equipment list included. Printing instructions to give double sided A6 cards (on A4 paper) are provided.
