Add Ones Across a Ten – Differentiated Worksheets

This Year 2 resource focuses on adding a 1-digit number to a 2-digit number when the calculation crosses a ten. A secure understanding of place value, and in particular the fact that 10 ones make 1 ten, is an essential prerequisite and is reinforced throughout.

Children are supported through the use of number lines and a part-whole model, which encourage partitioning the 1-digit number to first make the next ten, before adding on the remaining ones. This builds directly on earlier learning where children partitioned to make 10, now applied to larger numbers.

What’s included:

  • 10 × A4 number line part-whole strip sheets (4 problems per page)
  • 4 x A4 part-whole worksheets (8 questions per sheet)
  • Problems differentiated 3 ways using a chilli challenge system
  • Each problem presented with both a number line and a part-whole model
  • Printable as full worksheets or cut into strips for step-by-step problem solving
