Here you can get the worksheets and update from the hugely popular 'Big Book', Shompa Lives in India, which is now out of print.
Shompa Lives in India was written in 1998 when Shompa was seven
years old. She is now 14 years old and is in class six at Provati Girls’
School in Canning Town, near Kolkata (formerly known as Calcutta).
Her older brother Shurajit, aged 15, is in class seven at his school.
At home, Shompa helps her mother, Shanti, with the day-to-day
household chores. She is a responsible child, who takes care of the
family’s cows and other animals. Recently her father has been
seriously ill, so her mother has especially appreciated her help at
home. Shanti still works at the Sundarban Khadi and Village Industrial
Remember to check out the other "big books" from Christian Aid, "Abu Lives in Kenya" and "Luis and Richard Live in Peru". These are both still available to order, and have a similar set of ideas and activities to those that accompany Shompa in this resource.
