War Horse - Part 2
The unit has a number of different purposes: firstly, to teach history (i.e. World War I) through a novel and other secondary non-fiction texts; secondly, to engage the pupils’ interest in, and enjoyment of, reading; thirdly, to develop and extend the pupils’ PEE reading skills and their understanding of, and ability to comment on, writers use of language, to include, how setting, theme, character and plot are created and their effect on the reader. The Learning Objectives for the unit are often set-up as questions, using the Mazur model of peer-questioning to facilitate individual learning.
