Who are the Philistines?
In the bible פְּלֶשֶׁת - Philistia, is the coastal plain from Yaffo to Gaza. The inhabitants are called Philistines פְּלִשְׁתִּים. Amos and Jeremiah mention them from from Caphtor - probably Crete, or, as the Delta of Egypt. They were almost always in a war with the isrealites. They are called Pulsata or Pulista on the Egyptian monuments; They occupied the five cities of Gaza, Ashkelon, Ashdod, Ekron, Gat. They were probably not of the Semitic race, but after their establishment in Canaan they adopted the Semitic language of the country.
