Changing China (Rolling PowerPoint)

Changing China (Rolling PowerPoint)

Want to provide some background to China before launching into the One Child Policy? This activity tests students' concentration by requiring them to complete a worksheet using the information on a moving slide show. It covers the major changes in China since 1945 and provides a good introduction to both the challenges it has overcome and those it is still to face. Any feedback would be appreciated!

Different Types of Houses - shapes and materials

Different Types of Houses - shapes and materials

This is a story that can be made into a book - it has 12 spreads. The tutorial talks in first person of a child, who introduces different types of houses across the world. Use this to initiate conversations about why we live where we live, why do some people choose to live on stilts, in tents, and in igloos? Talk about what they do during winter, summer and during the rain.

End of Year Quiz 2012

End of Year Quiz 2012

Quiz with 6 rounds on famous places, keypad conundrums, connections, macro photography and a thematic quiz. I have used the name of my school on both, but these can be amended. If you are a teacher at my school, I would appreciate if you did not use this quiz. You could instead choose the 2011 quiz as the kids will have forgotten since last year!! I have a link to my youtube channel for ease on the listening round, or you could choose to load the wmv file instead. Please rate and leave feedback!

Year 6 Topic - Africa (7 week plan)

Year 6 Topic - Africa (7 week plan)

A really enjoyable unit to teach and plan. Quite resource heavy so can’t upload all the extra resources. We linked this in with a Year 6 fundraising opportunity and the children enjoyed their recycled olympics (‘wow’ day) and their fundraising cake sale. I am sorry for the lack of response - I have been on maternity leave for the last year and had all my resources saved to my school laptop and area which I no longer have access to! I will try to help as much as possible if you have any questions.

Qatar History and Desert Bundle

Qatar History and Desert Bundle

I lived and I worked in Qatar for a year. I know that while you need to teach about Qatar History, the books you are given are not easy to use and certainly won't last you a whole year and so I took the books I was given and I extended the tasks to produce a more interesting and more supportive learning environment, ideal for both the teachers and their students to get a lot more out of this topic.

The Amazon Rainforest

The Amazon Rainforest

This lesson plan and accompanying resources takes a very child-active approach to learning. Most of what is learned is through the children researching it themselves and presenting what they've discovered to their classmates. The art lesson linked to it creates a lovely Amazon display for the classroom and the children's projects can also be displayed on it.
