Jeopardy/Blitz Game Tenses & GCSE/SG Topics Review - German

Jeopardy/Blitz Game Tenses & GCSE/SG Topics Review - German

I got the template from another teaching website - it can be altered as needed. Macros must be enabled. Click on a box on the first page and you are transported to a page with an English sentence which pupils must translate into German. The more points, the harder the sentence. Click again and the answer appears. Click the return box and you return to the front page, where the original box will disappear to reveal a piece of the picture in the background. Record the points. I find having mixed ability groups all writing the answers on mini-whiteboards is good with this. Note: to change the picture in the background, move one box aside, right click on the picture, click Order and Move to front. Then delete it and put in your new picture, resize it, right click on it - Order - Send to back. Put the box you moved back in place.

Talking about jobs

Talking about jobs

KS4 booklet covering the topic of jobs to accompany the Logo 4 textbook - has a front vocabulary page and then multiple exercises practicing the vocabulary. Only reading and writing skills are covered and so it can be set easily as a cover work or homework task - or just when you need a break from all-singing, all dancing. I'm not a German specialist so please let me know if you spot any mistakes. Hope it's helpful.

Aural dominoes - past tense

Aural dominoes - past tense

Give each pupil a card (or 2 depending on the size of the group). The first pupil starts by reading the German phrase on their card. Someone else in the room has the translation and calls it out. They then read the German phrase on their card and this continues until all the cards are called and you reach the pupil who started. You can play it the other way round and do English- German translations. You can time the class and see if they can beat their time next lesson or at the end of the lesson. Good for a starter or revision.

KS3/4 German Bundle: Present/Perfect practice - housework, pocket money, travel

KS3/4 German Bundle: Present/Perfect practice - housework, pocket money, travel

Sequence of 4-5 lessons building towards an oral assessment. Topics: hobbies, housework, pocket money, travel.Grammar: present tense, perfect tense, modal verbs, separable verbs, reflexive verbs, subordinating conjunctions. Lesson 1) All students receive the 2-page handout as a learning aid/revision of syntactic structures studied. The other document is printed out double-sided onto A4 (card if possible) and cut up so each piece has 5 sentences on one side, and the answers on the other. From here it works as a carousel: Everyone has one card, and has 5 minutes (or less) to translate all five sentences. Then one minute to mark (2 marks per sentence - 1 mark up to the /, 1 mark afterwards - if it's not perfect, no mark). Lesson 2) is a series of tasks explained on the ppt. Lesson 3) Is a lesson targeting the students' propensity to forget all about the perfect when on the spot! Ask me if unclear. Lesson 4) Should also be self-explanatory. Lesson 5) (or perhaps the end of lesson 4) was a mock oral exam, using this as a marking grid.
