French calendar

French calendar

The French calendar resource has 3 sheets. The calendar with the French holidays highlighted, information about French holidays and questions on the French holidays. I have done this with students as a memory test, talking about the year and the various holidays then giving them the calendar and the questions on it to see how much they remember, could also be done as a team or pair game. Good for getting students to understand some of the cultural similarities and differences.

French menu with quiz

French menu with quiz

This resource has a French menu with prices, comprehension questions on it and the answers. I have also included notes on the menu in case you are not sure of the foods described. This is good for end of year 7 or year 8 students after they have done some work on food as it enlarges their vocabulary. I have used it as a basis for role-play and students have created their own versions adding dishes that they have researched. Can be used for cover with additional tasks such as design your restaurant logo and menu, create a quiz based on your menu to share with others, if students do this make sure they write the answers up for ease of correction.

"Spider Cochon" listening challenge

"Spider Cochon" listening challenge

Pupils listen to the song "Spider Cochon" and complete a gap-fill listening challenge. This is a fun activity that can be used with all age groups and reinforces the skill of listening for key sounds and following a script. The teacher PPT clearly displays the solutions taking pupils through the song step by step. Pupils love to sing the song together and it lends itself to creative work whereby pupils can create the next verse. Listening is often the skill pupils find most challenging and this fun activity can help to challenge barriers to learning.

French KS2 & KS3 - Creating Funny Families. (Self & Family)

French KS2 & KS3 - Creating Funny Families. (Self & Family)

This set of resources is an excellent way to finish work on self and family. It will take at least 4 lessons. There is a build up to the main activity when pupils work in groups and create their own funny families, which they present to the rest of the class. I have used this over many years with many groups and have refined it. I can honestly say pupils love doing it. Everything is presented in a step-by-step format and could be used by a non-specialist or cover teacher. There are two Power Points and range of worksheets. The first PowerPoint is to re-cap work on self and family and will be a lead into the main activity. In this first PowerPoint three members of the same family present information about themselves – the first very simply, the next has more information and the third is a longer text. For the first two family members there are differentiated exercises – very simple with circling the correct answer or true and false to open ended questions. You can choose to use different tasks for different ability groups within the class or it can all be used for the whole class. The second PowerPoint introduces the group activity in a step-by-step way. Pupils will work in groups to create a funny family, but each person in the group will be responsible for one family member so ultimately each pupil will be producing their own piece of work. There are a range of help sheets to help pupils of all abilities and there are answers for all exercises included. Finally the pupils will present their families in groups to the rest of the class. They can be assessed on the written work produced and/or the oral presentation.
