KS3/text level Spanish Reading arrow-whole lesson introduction to reading strategies

KS3/text level Spanish Reading arrow-whole lesson introduction to reading strategies

This tried and tested approach to reading provides a visual strategy which can be applied to a wide variety of texts in a second language or in English, improving not only language skills, but also general literacy. Particularly useful when exploiting authentic materials, it can equally be applied to more traditional texts and, once embedded, enables students of all ages to work successfully with more complex source materials than would otherwise have been the case. This resource models the strategy with a simple Spanish text, however it can be applied to texts of a wide range of difficulty. It includes a ten slide teaching presentation to introduce the strategy, comprehensive teaching notes accompanied by thumbnails of all the materials, plus student sheets and the strategy arrow, which can be laminated for repeated use. The resource is also available modelled with a French text and a German text.

Pay it Forward for the Blind

This project attracted interest in over 90 countries and been endorsed by the Pay it Forward Foundation in the USA, Adobe Youth Voices and iEARN and is a growing network where tweens and teens challenge other children, individuals and classes, to Pay it Forward by giving an hour of their time to record a story using two mobile phones. One phone is used to play lead-in music and sound effects whilst the other is used to record these backing sounds and the reader’s voice. Existing storybooks and original collaborative stories are included, some with a single reader, others using multiple voices.
