Student's response and reflection on their work - before the teacher marks their work

Student's response and reflection on their work - before the teacher marks their work

This can be used across the school to encourage student to reflect on their literacy development and self-editing skills. If you print two slides per 1 piece of A4 it can be easily glued in after a student has completed the work and before the teacher marks it. It is useful for ensuring students are critically assessing their own work so they become independent learners. Also, it’s good for showing progression if you’re planning on getting students to re-draft their work after you’ve marked it.

Pupil Passport: Breaking down barriers to learning (Pupil Premium, disadvantaged, Vulnerable, SEND)

Pupil Passport: Breaking down barriers to learning (Pupil Premium, disadvantaged, Vulnerable, SEND)

A successful strategy to improve pupil progress should be about identifying individual barriers to learning and then be about providing a bespoke support package to break them down. Our 360 passport does just that and provides Teachers/Senior Leaders with a deep understanding of their targeted pupils. The 360 passport also allows teachers to differentiate for the individual needs of each pupil to rapidly bolster progress. The resource includes: 360 passport template used to break down individual barriers to learning A half termly progress tracker for academic and pastoral measures to identify early slippage. Teaching and learning section External turbulence factors Individual support package Wellbeing score Mentoring templates Questions needed to ask for each section Method of how to roll the strategy out. An example profile to share (fictional data) The passport is completely adaptable so that you can apply your schools branding. The passport is also excellent evidence for Ofsted for the support you have provided for key pupils. These can also be used as a standard template for case studies.

Outstanding English Lesson Hook - iPhone Character Message

Outstanding English Lesson Hook - iPhone Character Message

Get the children’s imaginations flowing with this text message generator. This PowerPoint allows you to edit text messages as if they had come from anyone. It may be a message from the Gingerbread man or the 3 little pigs. The first slide acts as if the screen isn’t in use. The next pretends to bring up ‘your iPhone’ with the message from the chosen person. When you click (works best with a clicker) the slide will look like your replying. Clicking again saying “send” will send your preprepared message. Give it 4 seconds and your character will reply without you having to press anything. (Remember to type in your reply, it doesn’t generate that part). Then repeat the process again to have a conversation as long as you want. It even has real text noises! A genuinely excellent resource that has so much flexibility. This is an excellent resource! Always thought of creating something like this. Please review and let me know what you used it for! Mr H

My Vegan Child - A Resource for Educators

My Vegan Child - A Resource for Educators

My Vegan Child is a free online resource for parents, teachers and caregivers of vegan children. The booklet was created in collaboration with a group of vegan parents and educators. We wanted to communicate in a way that would inform our children’s teachers on veganism and to navigate potential sensitive areas such as food, nutrition and animal welfare. With more and more families becoming vegan, it is important that educators and carers gain an insight into the perspective of the vegan children they teach. Veganism is much more than just a diet. The information provided both in the booklet, and on this website, will help create a more inclusive learning environment for vegan children, as well as ideas and links for including humane education in teaching programs for all. Printing Info: Open pdf file in Adobe Acrobat Reader (download Adobe for free here). Choose print, then select ‘booklet’ as an option.

Creative Writing Resource: Shared Writing Lesson

Creative Writing Resource: Shared Writing Lesson

This is a customisable resource for English designed to get the creative juices flowing. A list of random words (choice of 2 - 5) is generated and pupils are challenged to come up with ways of including all of them in a piece of collaborative writing. As the class comes up with ideas, the teacher records them by typing on the onscreen board. The work can be saved at the end of the session. If pupils are not used to this kind of exercise, I suggest beginning with the 2 word sentence option. Challenge them to make sentences that make links between the words. You can move on to the other options in the menu as they become more confident… Although designed for use in English classes, this resource can easily be adapted for other subjects and for whole school sessions like assemblies. It is great for CPD too (safeguarding training, for instance). The PowerPoint file is stored in a folder with a text file named ‘words’. By replacing the words on this list by your own, the words generated on the screen can be related to any topic you like. Make sure that you keep the text file and the PowerPoint file together, however, or the nothing work. I have included a separate folder with three extra word lists (summer, adjectives, and synonyms for ‘said’). If you decide to use them, you need to rename them as ‘words’ and swap them with the original file in the main folder. You need to enable macros on your computer to use the resource, otherwise nothing will happen!
