Starter worksheet to recap job titles

A cover lesson introducing language for the photo card at AQA GCSE (for the 4-sentences writing task, and as a starting point for the speaking exam). This is for a low ability Y9 group. Covers: -il y a + nouns -il/elle est + height/build -il/elle a + hair description -il/elle a + basic clothing 4 pictures for students to describe.

Year 7 reading activity with three short texts including opinions and reasons. Could be suitable for cover work. Part 1 - match pictures to the texts. Part 2 - true or false.

Pupils work out new vocab using cognates and process of elimination. Then checked answers via powerpoint or Taskmagic game. Later in lesson gave list of French vocab for them to fill in English (recording vocab but also a test of what they've learned).

Used with an Asset Spanish class, so is fairly basic. Would probably be OK for KS3 or a Foundation GCSE group. Read descriptions of people's jobs/where they work, and match with job titles previously learned.

Reading text suitable for Y9 or KS4. Description of primary school (c’était, il y avait) and ideal school (ce serait, il y aurait) plus other verbs in the imperfect and conditional tenses. Could lead to practice of these structures and students producing their own written work.

Description of 8 traditioanl French dishes to match to their names. Pupils will need to research the food items in order to work it out. Builds up to pupils writing their own paragraph to describe a food item. Aim to develop comprehension skills and learn some new vocabulary whilst gaining cultural knowledge about French food.

Gapfill activity to consolidate imperfect tense (with contrast with present tense). This version is the one with clues (first letter of some words) for less able, but can be deleted to make it more challenging. Part of healthy living topic - used whilst preparing for writing a problem page letter.

2 lessons aimed at top-set Y9 pupils, linked to Module 1 of Expo 3 Rouge. Lesson 1: -Intro to film genres - think of an example for each genre listed. -Reading task - guess the film from the description (answers: The Hunger Games, Harry Potter, Frozen, The Fault in Our Stars) -Find the French (for key phrases to use in writing) -Writing task with sentence starters provided. Lesson introducing the verb aller and different methods of transport. Doesn't involve loads of drilling of aller, but exposes pupils to the concept of irregular verbs. They should be able to use 'je vais' 'tu vas' and 'il va' and just be aware of the other forms.
