A list of adjectives to describe a character. Useful as a reference point for any lesson involving character study.

A ‘because, but, so’ paragraph can act as a useful tool for starting off an exam response on a character to demonstrate the depth of a students’ thinking. Here are 6 ‘because, but, so’ sample paragraphs on the 6 main characters in the novel: Ralph, Jack, Simon, Piggy, Roger, The Beast. Analysing gothic narrative openings

Differentiated lesson looking at an extract from Chapter 5 of Frankenstein - when the creature comes to life. For higher ability there is a PowerPoint with annotations and model exemplars to stretch the more able. For lower ability students there is a structured worksheet: Task 1: Draw images to demonstrate understanding. Task 2: Find the meaning of difficult words. Task 3: Find contrasting phrases of beauty and ugliness in the poem. Task 4: Plan some PEE paragraphs. Task 5: Write up an analytical answer.

A Christmas Carol comprehension questions on Stave 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5. It is differentiated; there are various forms of questions on each Stave to allow you to tailor it to suit students of different abilities. It is useful to accompany a first reading of the novel in class or to encourage a second reading of the novel for homework.

4 step by step guides to introduce blues composition to students using Sibelius. All hint sheets have 3 levels of differentiation for each task and also include push your thinking tasks for musicians.

Worksheets with questions and extracts to help explore how Shakespeare presents Juliet as an unconventional woman. Students will be expected to explore how… In Act 1 Scene 3 her rebellion is passive and implicit and shown through her vague answers to Lady Capulet’s questions. In Act 1 Scene 5 and Act 2 Scene 2 her rebellion is more implicit and is shown through her love for Romeo. There are also comprehension questions based on what is a conventional Elizabethan woman.

A series of 2 lessons which use the elements from Mozart’s Horn Concerto (concerto, sonata form, 6/8 time signature) to as a stimulus for a composition task (original music also provided). All instrumental parts and composition tasks are differentiated and Sibelius files are also provided. PowerPoints for the lessons are available with differentiated and push your thinking tasks.

A series of 4 lessons based on Grieg’s ‘In the hall of the mountain king’, Stravinsky’s Firebord suite and Adams’ Short ride in a fast machine. These pieces are used as a stimulus to perform sections of classical music and create compositions in the western classical genre. All resources are differentiated. PowerPoints are also provided with differentiated tasks and push your thinking ideas.

Differentiated assessment/planning sheets to support students with a response to the following exam style GCSE question: How does Shakespeare present Lady Macbeth as an unconventional Elizabethan woman? A focus on how Lady Macbeth is presented in Act 1 Scene 5 and Act 1 Scene 7. There is a writing frame and easier planning sheets for lower ability students.
