A 56 page newly updated for 2024 revision booklet which pulls together my most popular resources over the last 10 years into one document for ease of printing/downloading.
Includes theme revision cards, knowledge organisers, theme trackers, top 100 and top 20 quotation sheets, planning sheets, writing frames, 10 high grade exemplar responses, contextual reminders, comprehension questions covering all staves, key extract revision and lots more.
Also includes analysis of the top 10 single words to analyse in the novella with high level explanations of how to zoom in and then how to zoom out to explore Dickens’ authorial purpose.
A range of resources to support the teaching of how Macbeth’s character changes across the play.
Includes a timeline to complete to track Macbeth’s changes.
Includes a revision sheet with high level analysis of 13 key quotations linked to the AOs.
Includes a simple writing frame for a low ability to help them write about Macbeth as a character who changes to grade 4 or grade 5 level.
Include a list of key quotations (with brief explanations) to pick from to help them write about Macbeth at different points of the text.
Includes a high-level direct knowledge statement which I explain and regularly encourage them to keep referring back to when it comes to discussing Shakespeare’s authorial message in the play at the end of each analytical paragraph.
The worksheet contains over 100 key quotes from the novel in chapter order.
Students are asked to link each quotation with one of the main themes using a code.
Students found this to be a highly effective revision tool.
A range of worksheets focusing on figurative language.
Using the examples as a guide, students come up with an A to Z of similes, metaphors, alliteration, oxymoron, personification. It works well as a home and away group activity.
There is also an extension on hyphenated words that can be used to replace one of the sections.

Use for a final revision session or series of sessions on A Christmas Carol
Present the students with 6 big ideas about the novel.
Students use the attached top 50 quotations sheet to help add their ideas about each big idea.
I have also included a top 100 quotation version for higher ability students.
Then go through possible answers on the PowerPoint. The PowerPoint is animated and each answer appears on the mouse click so you can talk through each one as it appears.
I have also included 6 predictions about what extract might come up. Now we are 3 years into the 9-1 syllabus, I predict they might use a more obscure extract so I have picked 6 less obvious extracts. Students read each extract and complete the planning grid.
Also includes some sample exam style responses to different generic questions.
New for 2022 is a large PowerPoint encouraging students to choose and explain their top 3 quotations for 9 different themes.
I like to revise BIG IDEAS for my final revision lesson. This lesson is student led.
Students create a mind map 6 BIG IDEAS about Romeo and Juliet using the 3 knowledge organisers to help them form their ideas.
Also includes 6 sample exam questions on one A3 sheet for ease of photocopying. The 6 questions are my predictions for what might come up in 2019.
This acts as useful stimulus for travel writing about a place. There are short extracts on Liverpool, Blackpool. Llandudno and Milton Keynes. ‘A thesis-style introduction that demonstrates your understanding of the question can be a really helpful way of starting your answer. It shows that you are ‘in charge’ of your essay and that you know what you think. It can provide a strong foundation for the rest of the essay. Keep referring back to the introduction to create a coherent response.’ AQA examiner’s report 2022
Creating a thesis-style introduction is a challenge for many students but is essential in helping students to reach levels 4-6 in the mark scheme. I have produced a simple 3 point structure to help students quickly generate a thesis statement in timed exam conditions. There is an example of the 3 point structure being used and then students attempt to imitate the structure for 4 other exam-style questions.
6 worksheets to support the teaching of descriptive writing about WW1 trench warfare.
To prepare KS2 and 3 students for the AQA GCSE exam on creative writing, the writing is inspired by a specific image.
The worksheets cover figurative language, sensuous descriptions, planning and model examples.
A bundle of resources to use in the final few weeks after you have taught all 18 poems.
The resources encourage students to learn quotations, explore comparisons and write up comparative paragraphs.
