In this resource students follow through the instructions that you read out to create their own poem. It would make a great activity for National Poetry Day, or as an introductory lesson to poetry. It’s lots of fun to do and pupils tend to enjoy it! It is best suited to a KS3 class and works for all abilities, but could be used for any class really (I have used it with KS5 who loved it!) N.B. Letter to my teacher (Year 7 intro lesson/Getting to know you)

This PowerPoint is a series of 2 lessons that helps students write a formal letter to their new English teacher. Lesson 1 - Discussing the difference between formal and informal writing, planning the letter using a mindmap (helpsheet with prompt questions on to support this) Lesson 2 - Writing the letter. I use this lesson with new Year 7 classes, although it could easily be adapted for any new class you teach. I find it a useful introductory activity so I can get a quick idea of abilities, handwriting, pace of working, etc. Did you find this resource helpful? Getting to know you - Intro. Lesson

This lesson is ideal for a new Year 7 class, or a new low-ability class. It is a great way for pupils to get to know you better, and for you to get to know them! The PowerPoint guides pupils through a fun activity where they draw objects and explain why they are relevant to them. It starts off with pupils guessing more about you based on the objects you have selected, and then they complete their own. Did you find this resource helpful? Drama Intro Lesson

Drama Intro Lesson

(0)
This lesson goes through some introductory warm up games for students new to drama. I’ve given a brief description of each game, but if you do a quick Google search you will usually find more details about how to play each game (YouTube is also good for this). Personally, I like to ask students at the end of each game what skills they think they needed to be successful at the game (e.g. teamwork, precise movements, memory, etc.) There are two lessons included - one for a classroom based lesson (i.e. no space to move!) and one for a hall/drama studio (more movement) Enjoying my free resources? Design Your Own Alien World - Project (Sci-Fi / Science Fiction)

(0)
In this project students design their own alien world and create a leaflet that persuades people to visit it. I then asked students to present their ideas back to the class. Students work through each task (Mindmap, drawing a map, and creating a leaflet). There is an example of a leaflet that persuades people to visit Wonderland as part of the worksheet. There are also 6 optional extension tasks at the end of the worksheet to keep those early finishers occupied! N.B. Pupils will need some prior knowledge of the Science Fiction genre to complete this project successfully. This project would suit a KS3 class. Did you find this resource helpful? Year 9 - Devising and Improvising

(0)
Perfect for a Year 9 group that aren’t keen on performing! At the end of the unit, pupils can either present their ideas or perform their devised piece. In this series of 6 lessons, pupils are given the stimulus that ‘Ryan Evans has just hit his Science teacher with a chair.’ Pupils then create a devised piece based on this using the carefully planned lessons and resources to guide them through it. For a reluctant Yr9 group they can present their ideas at the end of the unit if performing is too much of a challenge. Did you find this resource helpful?
