NOW UPDATED WITH WORKSHEETS - May 2019 The resources are for visual display around the classroom and can also be used as flashcards to teach days and month sequencing. Days of the week display title Days - Monday to Sunday display Months of the Year title Months of the Year display - January to December The four seasons display title The seasons Spring, Summer, Autumn/Fall, Winter Editable Birthday Wall display The birthday wall display is also on a PowerPoint Slide so you can type in your student’s name and print off. Alternatively, you can print off the PDF format and use blu tac or velcro and stick the student’s name on the birthday display. Create a seasons table - for example, in autumn lay out leaves, acorns and a harvest basket. In addition, there are worksheets to go with the displays. Days of the week – 4 worksheets Students cut and glue the days in the correct order. Jumbled days for students to unscramble and then write the days in the correct order. Students then answer the questions on the second part of the worksheet, e.g. What days do we call the weekend? Students read simple sentences that contain days of the week and then cut out and glue the strips in the correct order. Students write own simple sentences about what activity they do after school each day. To differentiate the activity, I have prepared a sheet with just pictures and activities on them which some students can choose and cut out to stick onto their worksheets and use the words to create a simple sentence. Months of the year - 5 worksheets Students cut and glue the months in the correct order. Months of the year poem – You can read aloud the poem to the students and ask them questions on it. It is also on PowerPoint. You could ask them if the months are in the correct order. Which months have 31 days? Which month has 28 days? Work at the table: Students can work together to read the poem and answer the 5 questions. On this worksheet, students trace over months and then list them in the correct order. In the last column they write the number of days in each month. Sorting months worksheet – Students write the months under the correct seasons. The last task is to write the month their birthday is in. Differentiated worksheet – students sort the months by cutting and gluing the months into the correct seasons on the wheel. UPDATED WITH ANSWER SHEETS AND TEACHER NOTES - May 2019 There are 7 Lesson Plans (with learning objectives) and Presentations . Worksheets and practical activities for whole class teaching. This resource is about:- -Sound and how sound travels to include sound waves, vibrations, pitch, volume; -The sounds we can make with our voices and what happens; -How we hear; -How some animals hear; -How to get sound from different musical instruments and what happens; and -The type of listening devices we use to locate sound, stethoscopes, hearing aids etc. 19 audio sounds for listening activities (MP3) Lesson 1: This is about how we use our voice and the different sounds we make. There is a diagram of how our voice works which includes vibration, pitch and how we need our teeth and tongue to produce sounds. Activity - children are given a very short text to add vocal sound effects to in their groups - narrator/reader reads the short text (print this off the Slide) and the other children decide on vocal sound effects to add. Lesson 2:- This is about musical instruments and how we produce sound from them (bang, hit, shake, pluck etc.) and group them into their categories (wind, stringed, percussion)- Grouping Activity sheets and Listening activity. Lesson 3 - This is more practical and children plan and design their musical instruments. They are given ideas on what to do, e.g. make a guitar from cereal boxes, the handle is made of kitchen towel tube, strings are various sizes of elastic bands etc. Lesson 4: This is about how we ear. Children learn about the anatomy of the ear (outer ear, middle ear and inner ear) and how we receive and process sound. They also learn about why we get dizzy (semi-circular canals in our ear is filled with fluid). There are worksheet activities and listening activities on PowerPoint Presentations. Lesson 5: This lesson is about different listening devices such as the stethoscope, ear trumpets that were used in the past and versions of it that are used to hear unborn babies. Children - to make ear trumpets and pot telephones learning about how sound travels to the ear via a medium. Children also investigate sound via different types of cups (sizes, material) and the length of the string). Lesson 6: This lesson is about how some animals move their ears to hear sounds and locate their prey. - Activities- children work with a partner to complete their worksheets which contain missing words. You can organize a carousel system - so each table deals with a different aspect on sound or you can do a whole class lesson on one aspect of sound week by week, ending the term on a sound carousel for assessment. This literacy resource differs from the other 100 sight word resource in that the Lotto game cards only contain Year 1 Common Exception Words whereas the Lotto game cards in the other resource contains 100 sight words. **Now updated with cards that use less colour printer ink. ** You now have a choice of using the original colour coded bingo cards. The original resources remain and I have also inlcuded printer-friendly bingo cards - the background is white and the outlines are in colour. Ready-made bingo cards and call out cards; -3 x 3 Lotto grid; Word searches; and Cards for word snap and lotto. 100 sight words obtained from the Primary National Strategy - Letters and Sounds: Appendices - 100 high-frequency words in phases and Year 1 Common Exception Words from NC 2014 English - Appendix 1: Spelling. Use to complement reading activities, literacy and for learning words for spelling tests and assessment. The Bingo and Lotto cards are numbered. There are two versions of the letter ‘K’ in Sassoon font. Set of word cards/call out cards for word bingo which includes Year 1 common exception words - just print out as many times as you like. Lotto game - There are a set of 3 x 3 grid lotto cards. The children can play as individuals or in pairs or in small groups. One child picks a word from a bag or box and read it aloud. The children mark the word on their card by using dry-wipe pens or placing a counter over the word. The first one to complete a line horizontally, vertically or diagonally wins the game. 4 Word searches with solutions – to find common exception words. Use the word cards for other activities such as laying out five different word cards and ask the pupil to point to the card that says, e.g. school. Use to complement reading activities, literacy and for learning words for spelling tests and assessment. Also great for end of term games. All the bingo boards and lotto boards are numbered and colour-coded for ease of use. There are two versions of the letter ‘K’ in Sassoon font. I have made extra cards for replacement. The words cover Phases 2 to 5 and comprises:- Phase 2 words - bingo cards (x17) Phase 3 words - bingo cards (x15) Phase 4 words - bingo cards (x15) Phase 5 words - bingo cards (x15) Phases 2-5 bingo cards (x40) - Use for whole class option, if you wish. A set of 3 x 3 grid lotto cards - (x20) for Phase 2, (10x) of each set for Phases 3 to 5. Set of wrongly spelt word cards for matching with a set of correctly spelt words – Put a few correct/incorrect words in the centre of the table for groups to match the jumbled words to the correctly spelt words, e.g. hte - the, pepole - people. Lotto game - There are a set of 3 x 3 grid lotto cards. The children can play as individuals or in pairs or in small groups. One child picks a word from a bag or box and read it aloud. The children mark the word on their card by colouring over or placing a counter over the word. The first one to complete a line horizontally, vertically or diagonally wins the game. 10 Word searches with solutions. Use the word cards for other activities such as laying out five different word cards and ask the pupil to point to the card that says, e.g. ‘about’. Set a time limit on how many sight words the pupils can read in a minute. Multi-purpose use of the white word cards. You can also use the word cards as displays.
