Teacher Shelly's Shop

Average Rating4.19

Teaching is my true passion and I love making interesting, interactive resources. I'm a bit of a secondary generalist as I teach English (KS3 and IGCSE), Science (KS3 Science and GCSE Biology), KS3 Humanities and GCSE Environmental Management. I've also dabbled in primary school teaching in the past. As such, my shop is a varied mix of resources! Hope you enjoy looking around. I'm also a google certified educator so will be adding some blog posts and google based lesson ideas on here in time.

KS3 Science Revision and Self Assessment Booklets (Y7,8 and 9)

I made these booklets to guide my KS3 Science class through revising for their upcoming Progress Tests. There is one booklet for each Year group with the objectives drawn from the Cambridge KS3 Science curriculum. I have tried to make the objectives as succinct as possible and phrased them in the form of 'I can' statements. The booklets contain links to videos, interactive websites and simulations. I teach a multi-graded class (Year 7,8 and 9) so found these booklets particularly useful in helping stronger students to revise independently while I worked more closely with weaker students. For each topic, students must complete 1-2 tasks then rate themselves for each objective as red, amber or green. I suggested they use this to help establish what they need to go back and study further.

Ecosystems Powerpoint (+ Extended Task)

This is a Power Point explaining what an ecosystem is and examining the components of an ecosystem. I also developed a fun, formative assessment task for students to do following the lesson. It really got students thinking like ecologists and they had lots of fun! Developed for Y9 but can easily be adapted for older or younger students

Task involves students choosing and providing a ‘client’ with a one week meal plan tailored to match their lifestyle. Task links to IGCSE Biology Topic 7.1: Diet. Students should use what they have learned about macro and micro nutrients and how these can be put together in different ratios in a dietary plan to support specific lifestyles

Guide to Completing a Science Investigation

I developed this for my Year 9 group when I realised they had never completed an independent science investigation before! It is based on the process for creating a project for the South African Science Expo. However, it can be used in any circumstances where children are planning an investigation and need some guidance. It really helped my Year 9's and I have even given it to my GCSE students

This is a great activity to aid students in thinking like paleobiologists. It involves investigating human history through looking at where Australopithecus sediba fits into the human family tree. Mark Scheme included. The task has two parts Part A: Investigating and comparing two biomes in terms of organism adaptations Part B: Constructing a Timeline of hominin history Investigating and designing a poster explaining the importance of Australopithecus sediba in human evolution (Online article resources included) Originally designed for a South African Grade 12 class but ca be used with any secondary phase, with the right assistance and scaffolding.

Pig Heart Dissection Instructions (+ included worksheet)

Based on the KS3 Year 8 Human Heart topic, this resource guides students through the dissection of a pig's heart. I have also created a worksheet to recap heart external and internal structure that is included. I did this lesson about mid-way through our topic on the heart and it really helped students to grasp the theoretical content.
