SATs revision fun

Do you remember the game runaround from the 80’s? Here are a selection of SATs style multiple choice questions for maths and English (SPAG). Then using the basic rules of runaround the children have thirty seconds to work out the solution and get to A, B or C. If you have a sneaky class you could also add in the extra rule that after 30 seconds they have another ten seconds to change their answer. Will they play sneaky or be fairer. It could be a good way of revision and exercise to relax the class and unwind at the same time.

Laughter Assembly

Long Multiplication

Long multiplication can sometimes be hard for some pupils to grasp, they can misplace a zero, not carry a number etc. I know its tricky (thankfully we have calculators). Here is a step method of looking at it. it has grayed out areas and default zeros added. the do times by units then add up, then tens and add up and so on until you add all the sums up at the end. contained is an example and a blank sheet for pupils to try with.

Activity 6 is based around comma golf. the par for the hole is based around the number of commas in the opening section of a piece of literature (it goes from Cats in a Manger to A Tale of two Cities). In the fist nine holes the pupils get given the par score and add the commas as they see fit. the back nine they must add the commas and hence decide the par score. Will they complete the course on par? Activity seven - welcome to the chase. Inference Inference is a major part of English testing. Using the game show you have a chaser and contestant / s to see how you answer the questions. Here in small groups you use a small paragraph or image of information to answer an A B or C question which has the correct inference from the multiple answers. Can you get home before the chaser catches you? There are two blank options if you wish to add your class examples.
