A lesson based on the possessive adjectives in French. Firstly, I use a word document which displays the possessive adjectives in an easy to follow grid. I copy this and distribute to students for their folder/hard back copy or alternatively, it could be projected and taken down. The second document is a word doc worksheet on which the students can practice what they've learned by filling the missing possessive adjective into each sentence. This is a starter worksheet and so, I have noted on it whether the noun is masc/fem'/plural. The final document is another cloze test that could be used for homework, in class or for an exam. Students must insert the correct possessive adjective in the blank space and then must translate each sentence from French to English.

A 3 page word document which summarizes the entire 'soils' chapter. Aimed at Junior Cert Geography (Irish curriculum). Could easily be adapted to suit needs. Includes a map of Irish soil types, diagram of soil profile and a pie chart showing soil composition. Easy to follow and well laid out.

An 8 slide PPT based on tropical red soils. Last slide is a ‘to do’ slide which directs students to their textbook and to a worksheet (can’t be uploaded as it is from a resource book). This slide can be adapted to suit your class. Textbook referred to in PPT is ‘Geoplanet’ by EDCO.

Three worksheets based on 'Grand Corps Malade. First worksheet is a biography about him and his life. Questions here are in English (to be answered in English). This can be a starter activity to introduce students to the artist. Second Worksheet is based on his song ‘Je viens de la’ and is designed as a cloze test. It also has a short translation activity and a grammar activity too which can be assigned for homework. Third worksheet is adapted from an authentic source (French online newspaper) and questions are in French (to be answered in French). This can be differentiated by changing the questions to English/writing easier questions. Again, this can be done in class or for homework. The three worksheets are designed so that the students are progressively challenged , starting quite easy and finishing with difficult questions to be answered in the target language. I use this study as part of my TY module.

Four PPTs which introduce the topic of weather and climate. First PPT presents the atmosphere, troposphere, latitude and sun. It is a 14 slide PPT with recap questions at the end. Slide 2 is based on air masses and weather systems. It has 22 slides, plenty of images, links to animations, homework exercises and class activities. A lot of the activities are based on the Irish book ‘New Geo’ by EDCO and also linked with RTE (an Irish channel), however these can be adapted to suit your curriculum/textbook etc… The ocean current PPT has 9 slides and includes a think-pair-share activity as well as 2 recap questions. The final PPT is based on wind and the coriolis effect. There are 15 slides, a link to an animation and plenty of images. There are 2 activities incorporated into this PPT and again, they can be adapted or of course deleted.

Simple PPT using images and words to present the weather in French. Worksheet is from French to English and can be used as homework, as an assessment or to recap in class. For an activity on this topic or a bundle with all 3 resources, see ‘My Shop’.

A 21 slide PPT based on Fold mountains. Suitable for 1st year students. Includes embedded video clips, key words and images/diagrams. There are some ‘to do’ and ‘homework’ slides which can be amended to suit the textbook, workbook or worksheet(s) you use yourself. The textbook and workbook we use is ‘Geography in Action’. 3 resources based on ‘Les vacances’. Suitable/adaptable for any age/stage. Vocab list with useful/key vocab. Matching exercise incorporating the key vocab above. Solutions to matching activity.

A two page word document explaining how to form the ‘futur proche’. Includes key vocab, examples, gap fill exercise and translation exercise. Suitable for students of all ages and stages.

A 17 slide ppt based on physical descriptions. Includes notes on hair, eyes and size. Includes ‘to-do’ slides which can be updated with relevant page numbers from the textbook you use. The book referenced is ‘Allons-Y 1’. Also includes photos of 4 celebrities which can be used to prompt an oral or writing activity. Final slide is a writing task and the success criteria is listed.

A gapfill exercise on the subject of TikTok and it’s popularity. Once gapfill is completed, students can use the text as a comprehension and answer the comprehension questions in English. This is followed by a grammar exercise where students must find different types of words in the text. Once complete and corrected, the text can be used as notes for opinon pieces on technology/social media.

A full lesson on the housing crisis - mentions Ireland in the piece, but can easily be adapted to suit your location. Has a list of key words/verbs/expressions that students must translate and classify (noun/verb/adjective etc…) and a gapfill exercise in response to an opinion-style question on the housing crisis. Once completed and corrected, this can serve as a sample answer for students.

A gap-fill exercise based on the advantages of learning a foreign language/French as a second language. This serves as a detailed sample answer for an opinion question once completed and corrected. Also has a follow-on ‘Trouvez dans le texte’ exercise which requires students to find different grammar elements in the text, e.g. an infinitive verb, a possessive adjective etc… Aimed at a higher level Leaving Cert/A-Level class.

A 4 page word doc based around school rules. Aimed at Leaving Cert Students. Introduces key vocab in a translation activity, then has a sentence builder activity, followed by an exercise in translating full sentences, and finally some discussion points. I got my class working on this in pairs and set a timer for each activity.

A full unit of work customised for the new Junior Cycle Geography curriculum (GCSE equivilant). Lots of Irish references, but these can be changed to suit your location. Nine PowerPoints in total - all incorporating diagrams, highlighted key terms, exam practice/to-do/homework slides, and embedded YouTube clips to consolidate learning. A 39 slide PPT based on soils. Includes images and graphs. Key points are underlined for easy note taking. Discusses how soils are formed and what the main components of soils are. Has a link to a Youtube clip which reiterates soil formation key points and explains the different layers of soil in basic terms. Then explains the soil profile/layers of soil. Finally mentions Irish soils and discusses brown soils and podzol soils in detail. Contains some ‘to do’ and homework slides which can be adapted to suit the class/curriculum. All transitions/animations are in place so it’s ready to use! Textbook and workbook referred to in PPT are ‘Geoplanet’ by EDCO.

A one page word document worksheet based on expressions with the verb 'faire'. Includes cloze test style exercise, translation task and an exercise in which students must make the sentences negative.

A simple research activity for World Book Day. Students will need internet access.

A short 6 slide activity for French students. Suitable for junior students/Transition year students. Two texts in which students must find mistakes in spelling, agreement, gender, tense etc... Good intro to another activity or works well as an activity where students can work in pairs.

A theme based ‘production écrite’ worksheet on refereeing. Includes a worksheet for students and the answer sheet for teachers. I started this activity using the key vocab listed - students had to work in pairs to translate and categorise the words (nouns/adjectives/verbs). They then had to use the vocab and prior knowledge to translate the sentences, all of which can be used for an opinion piece on this topic. Suitable for a Higher Level Leaving Cert/A level class.
