Echo 3 Grün K5 Leute heute E1 Meine Familie (character adjectives/adverbs/comparisons) (2 lessons)

(0)
A double-sided worksheet (file makes two A5 double-sided sheets) revising family members, adverbs of frequency and adjectives describing personality. Sentence-builders demonstrate how to compare family members - ends with a fairly amusing opportunity to say things like 'my mum is funnier than your mum!'; And a double-sided lesson of sentence builders describing your own family. Both suitable for lower sets.

KS4 German: Health! Questions and Answers; Future/Conditional/Modals +Infinitive constructions

(0)
Comprehensive worksheet on the topic of health, focusing on practising and producing the verb structure 'second-final' (i.e. future, conditional and modal verbs + infinitive). Because we all like to talk about what we WILL/WOULD/COULD/SHOULD do!! Great for GCSE classes. Clearly demonstrated using 'sentence-builders', which can also be used for revision, or to create longer pieces of writing.

KS3/4 German: Environment/Umwelt in 3 tenses (Present, Future, Perfect)

(0)
A couple of help sheets and activities on the topic of the environment which revise the use of three different tenses. Based on Echo 3 Rot K4E4 Umweltschutz (pp.66-67). Included are: - helpsheet of sentence builders on present tense (ich-form); - helpsheet of sentence builders in three tenses, plus hints on how to use and extend them (NB the same verbs are used in all three tenses) (all in wir-form); - set of sentences to translate into German (differentiation is in the 'level' on which students attempt the task - details on sheet. I devised this for my year 9 beginners' class. They found it tricky - I think the challenge would be there for learners who have more years of German behind them.

Includes Diamond 9 activity (with support for discussing in German), guess my sentence activity, battleships, and Os and Xs. (Another successful interview lesson!)

Echo 2 Wo gehst du einkaufen? (2 lessons)

2 lessons: in lesson 1, students learn 9 different shops. This lesson is full of AfL as the students set their own targets for learning these phrases during the lesson. In lesson 2, students use these phrases in sentences to describe what you buy where. Again, lots of practice and AfL techniques with a thumbs-up/down quiz to finish. Great for year 8.

KS4 German: What should you be? Job quiz!

(6)
Fun independent activity for KS4 German. In lessons we covered jobs, personality words, and modal verbs: then students created a flowchart quiz using questions about personality and future plans (I used lucidchart.com to create mine!). They loved bringing in their flowcharts and doing each other's!
KS4 German Holiday Complaint Letter

KS4 German Holiday Complaint Letter

(5)
A task to write a holiday complaint letter with step-by-step instructions to create a good answer. Used as an opportunity for students to write their first controlled-asessment style piece of writing, with plenty of support and room for extending with adverbial phrases (on separate sheet). I hope you have as much fun reading/teaching it as I did making it up!

Successfully used as an interview lesson!

KS3 French Studio 1 Mes Passetemps Revision

(3)
When I taught this topic (Module 3 from Studio 1) I used a sentence builder at some point in each lesson to demonstrate the relevant language point. For revision I put them all together to remind the students of their learning. Great for a variety of games: Guess my sentence, translation into French, hands-down questioning (say an English sentence, turn the projector off after 3 seconds, and pupils give an answer from memory), the beep game ('beep' one element out - student guesses).

hasslethehoghasslethehog

Stimmt 1 - Freizeit juhu! Revision

(0)
A single lesson revising Chapter/Kapitel 3 Freizeit - juhu! from the Stimmt 1 textbook. Pitched at year 7/8, or learners in their first year of German. Covers present tense sentences, mainly ‘ich’ but some 2nd/3rd person too, as well as gern and time/frequency adverbs and und/aber/denn with a little bit of ‘weil’. Features a mix of reading/listening and speaking, and would be easy to use tasks as writing tasks for further consolidation. Activities inspired by Gianfranco Conti’s EPI method (bad translation, sentence jigsaw, listening slalom, oral pingpong). Includes: Lesson plan 2x handouts .ppt presentation

KS4 German Charity Sporting Event starter

I used this with a mixed Year 10 class in the final lesson before beginning a controlled assessment on a sporting event for charity. This activity introduces key phrases and structures, and also subtly gives some ideas as to how to have fun with your writing.
