Since completing a degree in computer science, I went on to teaching and have done this for many years. I am now working in a secondary school teaching computer science to KS4. Over the years I have developed resources that I have used in the classroom and know how difficult it can be to find suitable resources. I thought it would be great to share these.

How to create a professional email (ICT FS or ICT GCSE)

A nice PowerPoint on how to create a professional email. Could also be used in a literacy lesson. This was used in a recent ICT lesson workshop as well as an English functional skills lesson. This PowerPoint provides information on the difference between informal and formal emails, how you start an email as well as ending an email. As this is a PowerPoint, you can adapt it to your own lessons. I hope you will find this useful. Kathy's ICT Resources.

I developed this worksheet to help studens use Excel basic functions, these include the IF function, Min, Max, Average and also SUM. This worksheet also gives students a chance to design a poster and write an email. This is in a Word document, so you can amend the worksheet to suit the abilities of your learner.

Alpine Snow School Project - ICT FS or ICT GCSE

I have developed a project called Alpine Snow School Project - This project enables students to develop a wide range of skills by researching, developing a poster, presentation, excel spreadsheet tasks including SUM, MIN, MAX, Average, IF function, Lookup Function, Absolute as well as general ICT questions. This can be used for an assessment to identify knowledge already obtained or need obtaining. I have used this as a mock exam in preparation for an ICT exam. This took my my students 2 lessons to complete but you really do get an idea of what ICT skills they have. I hope you find this useful.

Students need to learn about spyware and also how to research. This activity asks the students to develop a poster on spyware but using the internet to find information. A fabulous activity to get the learners developing their knowledge on spyware. Learners need to know how to research as part of any ICT course.

Computer Science GCSE - Mini Test - Fundamentals of Algorithms

I created a mini test for my year 10s and 11s on the fundamentals of algorithms. There are 10 questions and takes about 30 minutes to complete. I have also included a marking scheme. The questions can be changed so that they are easy adaptable to your students. Questions include binary search, merge sort and abstraction.
