Students are introduced to the course content. Students complete a quiz in which they complete a likert scale as a class based upon pictures of food. This often provokes discussion around high fat content, cultural, learnt and possibly evolutionary explanations to their personal preferences. Teacher runs through the AO1 points related towards Neophobia before students complete an exam question.

Students complete a Venn diagram using key terminology that describes physical properties of metals and non-metals. Students are introduced to the way metal atoms bond Students complete a poster swap task related to variations in different metals. Students complete a 6 mark question related to metallic bonds.

Students recap the GPE and KE calculations with a ball rolling down a hill. Students are introduced to the idea of energy transference in a pendulum and the conservation of energy. (if Your feeling brave) you can attach a 1kg weight to the projector and swing it away from your chin to demonstrate that energy cannot be created. Alternatively play the video... Students then write a six mark question and are given feedback to improve (with green pen if you wish).

-Students remind themselves of the indicators of a chemical reactions. -The powerpoint runs through the definitions of reactants, products, and the conservation of mass. -Teacher demos magnesium ribbon burning in oxygen to form magnesium oxide, using this to remind students of word equations. -Combustion is used as an example to explain balancing symbol equations. Students use a multi-store car park a model to demonstrate their understanding of outlining the model. Students are reminded of what skills can be demonstrated in outline and evaluate questions. A quick summary of supporting and refuting evidence as well as some of the key limitations of the model. Students use the summary essay sheet to write a model answer in class.

Students arrive to the lesson with a food diary of the last few days. The piece of work is to highlight highly palatable foods and low fat foods. Students can use their diary to explain why they might have higher fat foods due to an evolutionary advantages. Teacher run through slides related to parental and peer influence before students fill in a table of relevant evaluative points using the cat textbook edition 4. Students watch a series of television adverts and figure out who the target audience is and how it relates to influences food preference. Students use their knowledge to complete a summary homework

A PowerPoint that runs through three theories related to the psychological explanation of obesity: restraint theory, boundary theory and disinhibition. The PowerPoint includes evaluative points and two tasks related to writing critical evaluative points. Students use their understanding to write the essay "Outline and evaluate research related to the psychological explanation of obesity".

Students write a six mark question to recap their knowledge regarding metallic bonding. Students are re-introduced to ionic, simple covalent, giant covalent and metallic bonding before using the pg80 of the textbook to fill in a Venn diagram. Students use their Venn diagram to help complete a series of exam questions.

Students are introduced to the idea that moles are an amount of things similar to pairs and dozen. Using the PowerPoint student are introduced to Avogadro's constant and that a relative atomic mass in grams equals one mole of an atom. Students complete a experiment in which the rotate around the room to weigh different amounts of substances in beakers to calculate how many moles are present. Students use the mass of the beaker and the symbol formula (written on the side) to calculate the mass/mmr. Students practice rearranging the calculation.

Students complete reminder questions related to KS3 Acids and Alkali unit. students are introduced to acids as substances that donate hydrogen ions in solution (as per the new spec). This is demonstrated with some PowerPoint animations. Students complete a range of questions to demonstrate their understanding.

Students remind themselves of what are common indicators of a chemical reaction and watch the video link of Professor McG transfiguring into a cat from the first Harry Potter movie. Students then watch a demonstration of Lead nitrate + Potassium Chloride --> Lead chloride and Potassium nitrate. Students then calculate the masses of the reactants and products. After watching a clip of Antone Lavoisiuer of proving the conservation of mass, students use their knowledge to complete a series of questions

Students plan and conduct their own conformity experiment in their school. Students use the lessons to revise content they have previously learned and apply it. students found this series of lessons very engaging as they thoroughly enjoyed the idea of making their own experiment. It worked well for Year 12 revision after we finished the content. The main ideas involved in this SOW prepare students for the research method questions in the AS Paper 2 spec. paper.

Students identify the adaptations of a magical reindeer and remind themselves of the GPE and Power equations to calculate how many calories each reindeer would need to fuel their journey on christmas eve. Students burn a range of food (including dried carrots) to see how much energy is stored in each and to extrapolate up how many carrots (in grams) would the reindeers need to eat. Ho Ho Ho.

-Students discuss particular issues Santa may have on his Christmas eve journey (E.g. Military airspace...) -Teacher runs through a range of slides that considers, mass, air resistance, calories consumed, alcohol limits, speed, and amount of time needed. -Students are introduced to the question "How many carrots are needed to feed the reindeer during the journey" -Students complete a simple burning food experiment to test dried carrots (available at most good retailers) and other foods such as crisps, and bread to test which produce the most energy. -Higher students can try extrapolating up to find out how many carrots are needed. HINT it is over 900,000.... but remember they are magical. insert carrotometer joke where appropriate.

Students run through a range of word equation and formula equation tasks using the worksheet and sorting cards. The formula crib sheet supplements this resource.
