Reactions, Naming, and Balancing Quiz

(0)
Twenty question assessment for identifying types of chemical reactions, naming ionic and covalent binary compounds, and balancing simple equations. Can be used as a quiz or review worksheet. Not multiple choice. Answer key is included.

Phase Change Identification Activity

(0)
Manipulative activity in which students identify and label basic phase changes and whether energy is being added or removed. Students can cut and paste the answers and keep the completed activity in their notebooks, or teachers can laminate for multiple uses, and students can copy the completed diagram into their notebooks. Great formative assessment!

Acid-Base Scavenger Hunt

(0)
PowerPoint and student worksheet for conducting an acid base scavenger hunt. Can be done as a lab activity in class or as an at-home science activity. The PowerPoint gives an overview of acids and bases, directions for the activity, and safety guidance. The student worksheet contains a review of how blue and red litmus paper work, directions for the activity and a location to record results. Teacher notes include options if red and blue litmus is not available (red and blue litmus paper can be purchased from science supply companies).

Scientific Methods and Measuring Quiz - 2 versions

(0)
Quiz to assess scientific methods and measuring. Includes tools, units, accuracy and precision as well as a short data analysis activity (students are given the data from a white powder lab and have to answer questions about the possible identity of the materials). Two versions, both with answer keys.
Build An Atom Atomic Structure Activity

Build An Atom Atomic Structure Activity

(1)
Students review and practice how to determine the number of protons, neutrons, and electrons an atom possesses. Students also create Bohr models of three elements from the first six on the periodic table.
Metric Measurement Learning Activities

Metric Measurement Learning Activities

(0)
Includes three activities for reviewing and reinforcing metric measurement. Activity 1 is an "I have...Who has...?" vocabulary game using metric units, prefixes, and measurement definitions. Activity 2 is "Metric Mystery Boxes," an activity that is part logic puzzle and part calculating volume. Students are given a set of length, width, and height measurements, as well as a set of clues. Using both, the students match a set of four boxes with their correct dimensions. Activity 3 is a 2 part practice sheet that is great for warm-ups. All answer keys are included.

Crafting a Scientific Argument: Density

Crafting a Scientific Argument: Density

(0)
Provides practice using the "claim/evidence/reason" framework for crafting a scientific argument. Students are presented with a scenario of 5 blocks of differing shapes, masses, and volumes. After calculating the density of the 5 blocks, students are guided in crafting a scientific argument about whether shape affects density. Can be done as classwork or homework. Can be used to introduce the concept of density or as a formative assessment. Works well in conjunction with a hands-on lab about density.
Crafting a Scientific Argument Half-Life

Crafting a Scientific Argument Half-Life

(0)
Students will be presented with a scenario and set of half-life data. Students will read the scenario, calculate half-life, and then craft a scientific argument using the claim/evidence/reason framework. Includes answer key.
