A useful PowerPoint that discusses the National Curriculum framework for primary History, how skills develop throughout the years and an opportunity to reflect on the school’s practice so far and next steps. A good starting point for a subject lead tasked with running a History CPD session.

A week long unit to tie in with a topic on Ancient Egypt. Children learn to write a diary entry as an Ancient Egyptian by collecting key facts and information, drama, looking at features of diaries before writing their own which they publish and produce.

This was a really early resource I made before starting university when I was helping in a year 7 History class. Can be used as a quick starter activity to refresh children’s memories of previous lessons or used at the end of a lesson to summarise certain words and terms they have learnt that day.

A series of 6 lessons designed at covering the Tudors. Also can be used as part of the Cornerstones curriculum topic “Off with her head”. Includes drama and writing activities, mostly historical lessons but with a geography lesson to end on.

A set of 6 lesson plans for History focusing on the British history, in chronological order focusing the following areas: - Battle of Hastings (diary entry as a Norman invader) - The relationship between Anne Boleyn and Henry VIII (debate and trial activity to decide on Anne Boleyn's guilt) - The Great Fire of London (newspaper activity) - Georgian Highway men (wanted posters using old English) - Victorian workhouses (a report on the conditions people had to endure) - Life in WWII Britain (diary entries Blitz survivors) All plans individually differentiated 3 ways with clear learning objectives, success criteria, plenarys and key vocabulary. Also includes historical objectives on the front page to identify areas of coverage. Links to useful websites included, especially the BBC History page for audio resources.

A set of 10 activities about the Titanic to be used as either a set of research lessons or a themed day at school. Has been used with my Year 6 cohort and has been incredibly successful. Covers a variety of subjects such as: - Design & Technology - Food Techology - History - English Creative Writing - Sensory Experiences - English Persuasion - Music - Research

A 7 lesson unit on mystery story writing linked to Ancient Egypt. Starts with setting descriptions, story planning, build up and action sequence with opportunities to edit and redraft throughout. Children can then free write their own endings to show a development in their writing from heavily scaffolded, removing some support in the middle of their stories to get a totally independant ending.

A series of Geography and History lessons linked to the Cornerstones topic of ‘Alchemy Island’ focusing on physical geography, grid references, biomes and many more!
