I made a tiny, simple little interactive animation thingy to illustrate particles in a clunky kind of way. Just the three states of matter. Please note: in order to provide a rich interactive experience, my interactive resources are mini-web sites local to your computer. After unzipping, they comprise a folder containing the main .html file and another folder containing the graphic resources and my coding to make the resource work. A very simple diagram of the apparatus for simple distillation. It may be useful for teaching the principles of how to draw diagrams in chemistry.

I made a simple Venn diagram to put these into context. Students find this area difficult.

I set this to a funky beat, in an attempt to aid memory. Play it over and over again. If it’s too large to download, you could play it directly from this page, pressing the fill screen button. Why not play it at the end of many lessons, getting students to chant the names of the functional groups as they appear? A real process of learning.

Words taken for AQA GCSE science ‘how science works’ Please note: this can be printed on two sides of the same sheet, because the definitions are on the same side- no need to keep turning over.
