At the heart of the Learning and Development theme in the new EYFS framework, sits play and active learning. EYFS Today explores what these look like in practice.

At Albert Bradbeer Primary, planning the role play area is an essential starting point for each term’s topic. The teacher plans with the children, finding out their ideas in connection to the current project, ‘living things’. They decide on two, a zoo and a swamp.

Later, the school is revisited to see how the role play areas have developed, and just what the children are learning as they play.
