The Music of Frederic Chopin - WebQuest and Music Composition Project

The Music of Frederic Chopin - WebQuest and Music Composition Project

In this lesson, students learn fun facts about Frederic Chopin and his music as they complete a WebQuest (Internet Scavenger Hunt) to answer questions about the topic. Then, they use that knowledge to create a music composition of their own, using Chopin’s style, using Soundation, a free Web 2.0 music creation and editing program. A complete answer key is provided for the WebQuest for easy grading, along with resources for both teachers and students. The student questions are included in both a print version and a digital (editable) version to make it easy for students to complete the lesson digitally or on paper. Also included are tutorial links to assist students with the software for the music project. This lesson was designed for middle school (grades 6-8) but could be used in upper elementary as well. Files included: • Teacher & Student Resources • Fun Facts about Frederic Chopin WebQuest Activity (print and Editable digital files included) • Fun Facts about Frederic Chopin WebQuest Answer Key • Creating Music in Chopin’s Style using Soundation

Imaginative Writing SOW - The Supernatural, Sinister and the Downright Scary Unit - 20 Lessons!

Imaginative Writing SOW - The Supernatural, Sinister and the Downright Scary Unit - 20 Lessons!

This is a 20-lesson unit on imaginative writing, originally designed for Year 9 students. It contains a full Scheme of Work, plus homework menu and accompanying anthology of short stories. Each lesson is complete with PowerPoint and any necessary resources. This is a highly differentiated and organised resource with focus on extending the links between reading and writing. There are two assessment points (baseline and final) plus various extended writing opportunities throughout. This has been incredibly successful at my school and has achieved fantastic results in improving students' writing. I hope you enjoy teaching it as much as I enjoyed making it!

Assessing and Recording without the Exercise Book

Assessing and Recording without the Exercise Book

Children often know more about science that we think; sometimes they just donʼt have the skills to write down their ideas. I wrote this book because I have a strong belief that all children, whatever their literacy levels, should be given the opportunity to share what they know about science. Over the years, Iʼve developed a range of alternative recording methods that allow children to express their knowledge and learning. These have been tried and tested in the classroom. This book outlines these methods, gently guiding the reader through each one. I cover what each recording method looks like, the reason behind using it, some ideas on how to incorporate it into a lesson and how to use it to assess children. My hope is that this book will show teachers that there are ways to record and assess science that are fun and creative and that generate enthusiasm in the classroom. Most importantly - they donʼt involve an exercise book. By using these methods youʼll find that children, particularly those who lack the ability to get things down on paper, will demonstrate an amazing science understanding. They just needed to be given the chance to express it their way! This book was written for primary Teachers but the ideas can be used in secondary schools as well.
