8 Inspirational Colour Sketches

8 Inspirational Colour Sketches

These 8 lively, colourful pictures offer inspiration for story-writing, poetry-crafting, newspaper report inventing, and enhancement of the topics they reflect, which include: wild woods, migrating birds, ocean, sunset, jungle, wild animals (British and tropical), dragons, magic carpet rides, transport, myths and more. NB: I sketched and coloured the pictures by hand, adjusting them slightly with basic computer software, so expect spontaneity rather than professional artwork or machine neatness. I use them for all primary classes.

World Cup Themed Year 4 Leavers Show Script

World Cup Themed Year 4 Leavers Show Script

My year 4 class wanted to do a World Cup themed leavers show this year, but I couldn’t find anything suitable that would allow them to also share their memories and stories, so I wrote this instead. There are 5 acts in the show, each one has space for memories from a specific time/year group - namely: reception and nursery (combined), year 1, year 2, year 3 and year 4 (in that order). For obvious reasons these will need to be completed by you, although I had my class write their own scripts for each of these bits and just added them in when they were done to save me some time. There is also a song at the end of each act. These are not detailed due to copyright issues - you will have to choose your own. With my class I have used a mix of songs the children liked singing in school and some pop songs they enjoy with altered lyrics. In addition there is a bit for a group of children to do a dance/gymnastics/karate/origami/whatever else suits your kids routine (cheerleaders bit). It’s a fairly straightforward setup, and props wise the minimum you would need are a desk and chairs for the commentators to sit at on stage, and a whistle. While it’s set up for year 4, it could easily be adapted for year 6 or another primary age class. PLEASE NOTE: Act 5 contains some reference to the pen licence music (Strauss’ Also Sprach Zarathustra, the theme from Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey), which I play to my class when someone is being awarded a pen licence. Clearly this will not be relevant to your children so the final ‘breaking news’ act will need a slight bit of tweaking to fit your class.

Phonics screening check Fun racing game nonsense words Year 1 Australian 4 players and 2

Phonics screening check Fun racing game nonsense words Year 1 Australian 4 players and 2

This game was loved by my mixed R/1 class so much that I created a 4 player A3 sheet version. It promotes reading and sharing. Included is a 2 player and 4 player version. This download includes 5 PDF documents with 4 game boards (20 boards in all). Each split digraph a_e , e_e, i_e , o_e and u_e have been split into three levels of difficulty and the middle ability has a copy with the sounds highlighted to further differentiate. Boards contain a mixture of nonsense/alien words and real. The pupils simply roll die and then move car and say word they land on. They don’t move if they can’ read the nonsense word. The other pupils really enjoy being the ref and check their friends learning. To make it a longer game use a die just up to 3. This can be used as a whole class activity / starter or with 1:1/group interventions. You could simply use this to time your children on how fast they can read the words. To extend game just overlap the game boards and make the track longer. Children could play best out of three or you could use the game boards to set out a mini competition/tournament around the classroom. It’s also great when doing transport as a theme and to check and stretch learning. I’ve included the word documents so that you can edit and create your own words. Great revision activity for the new Year 1 phonics screening check. No real preparation needed. Simply print and use. You only need toy cars or a playing piece and a die. I really hope you and your class enjoy this as much as my class do. Please leave feedback if possible :) Thanks

The Beveridge Report and the Creation of the Welfare State

The Beveridge Report and the Creation of the Welfare State

In December 1942 the government released a report authored by Sir William Beveridge in which he wrote “A revolutionary moment in the world’s history is a time for revolutions, not for patching”. His report laid the foundations for Britain’s post war welfare state while the world was still at war. This resource is based on an exhibition that was held in the Library Gallery at the London School of Politics and Economics in January – April 2018 to mark the 75th anniversary of the publication of the Beveridge Report and the 70th anniversary of the Welfare State. Images and textual evidence for this resource are taken from the heritage collections in the Library of the London School of Politics and Economics (LSE). William Beveridge’s papers are held in LSE Library as are papers belonging to numerous politicians, activists and campaigning groups. Transcripts and images of original documents are provided on the powerpoint slides and the teachers’ notes provide support contextual and background information. These resources can assist with learning activities around the understanding of causes and consequences, making links between different perspectives and awareness of the roles of different individuals, ideologies groups and ideas. References are made to the perspectives of historians writing on this area and finish with different historiographic approaches. Supports aspects of the schemes of work for: • Edexcel Paper 1, Option 1 H: Britain Transformed, 1918 – 1997. Theme 2: Creating a Welfare State • AQA 1G Challenge and Transformation: Britain c. 1851 – 1964. The impact of the Second World War on British politics – The Labour Landslide of 1945 and Developments in social policy – the Beveridge Report • AQA 2M Wars and Welfare: Britain in Transition, 1906 – 1957. Part Two. The Emergence of the affluent society; Section 2: the People’s War and Peace, 1939-1951. The social and cultural impact of ‘total’ war – the Blitz and plans for reconstruction.

Financial Literacy Drop Down Day

Financial Literacy Drop Down Day

Drop Down Day Pack - A set of 6 lessons to cover a Drop Down Day (6 hours) all about financial literacy and ethical spending. The Drop Down Day was put together for Year 10 originally, but all the resources are editable and well-differentiated so it could be used with any year group KS4 / KS3 with a tweak or so. The overall theme for the series of KS4 Drop Down Days was ‘Independent Living’, so this is just one in a series of six which ran throughout the year. The day works especially well if you can have a key speaker from the Finance Industry (the school’s finance director will do) to kick off proceedings; just someone to emphasise how important financial literacy is and how it can lead to lucrative careers. Intertwined with the money and independent living skills gained by students throughout the day are reminders of their responsibilities as consumers to spend ethically. There is much focus on young people’s rights and responsibilities throughout the lessons as this was planned to ensure thorough coverage of Citizenship and SMSC too. All these individual lessons have been rated very highly by Tes users and are tried and tested in my own department. You can find many more inexpensive and free PSHE, Citizenship and RE resources at my shop: <a href=“https://www.tes.com/teaching-resources/shop/EC_Resources”><br /> Leave me a review and pick any other resource for free :)</a><br />
