First Day of School About Me Student Interest Survey (Secondary English)

First Day of School About Me Student Interest Survey (Secondary English)

If you're that meticulous and over-zealous English teacher who wants to get to know his or her students' interests and abilities from Day 1, this fun and extensive student survey is a must for you! It will inspire your students to think creatively as well as lead them to self-reflect about their own academic strengths and weaknesses in an English classroom setting. There are 21 questions in total, though some questions contain multiple parts, require the circling of several items or ask students to rate themselves in various areas. I give out this 1-page (front to back) survey to my students on the first day as an extended Do Now every year and save the completed surveys in a central binder. The information you collect from these surveys is very helpful in creating engaging lessons and addressing the many diverse needs of a large population of students. You will also collect information that can assist you with making seating assignments, planning partner and group work and addressing behavioral problems.

Outdoor Activity Task Cards and Games

Outdoor Activity Task Cards and Games

**can be used ALL year round! It's Winter, NO, that does not mean you should be searching for indoor activities - of course, yes, there needs to be indoor learning but PLEASE, make sure you take your students outside in Winter. I have compiled 110 task cards and games for Winter Outdoor Learning! The cards are split - yellow are TASKS and green are GAMES. You can laminate these and loop them with a key ring hoop for extra durability or you can use a plain old grip. I have them in a big bin and the children choose one card every week for the following week (just incase prep is needed!) These task cards cover ALL areas of the curriculum. They include; science, geography, understanding the world, literacy, art and maths. 110 Task Cards - you can choose ONE a day!! :)

Classroom Organizational Chart

Classroom Organizational Chart

Hello, friends at TES! Here's a super simple organizational chart that I use in my classroom for just about everything! All you need to do is "click" and "type" to add your students' names and column headers. I use it to collect homework, and field trip money... to schedule conferences... it's a simple, yet very handy tool that I rely on quite a bit. In the upper left hand box, just click and type the title of your focus. i.e. Homework Then add your students''names in the fields next to the numbers. (I assign an alpha-number to each of my students in the fall.) Label the column headers. i.e. For my homework collection chart, I label the columns Tues., Wed., Thurs., Fri., which are the days I collect homework. Then print and you're good to go! Even if you're not that familiar with Microsoft excel, this spreadsheet is super simple to use. Happy organizing!

DOLLAR UP: Next Dollar Buying Food Adapted Book Special Education Autism

DOLLAR UP: Next Dollar Buying Food Adapted Book Special Education Autism

Money, Money, Money!!!! Prices between $1.00- $5.00 This is an adapted book to practice using the dollar up/ next dollar method for purchasing items at the store. The book has 9 items to practice purchasing. Students are given a choice of 3 prices on each page and are asked to pick the price that is the next dollar after the price shown. Students then read the sentence at the bottom of the page using the visual supports on the sentence strip. (Ex: I need $2.00 to buy the lettuce.) Next, the student use the visual support on the opposite page, to count/ collect the correct bills to create the specified dollar amount. After students finish writing the book I like to have them practice copying down the sentences they have made. This is a great way to have students work on money awareness and dollar up while encouraging students to read/ write and speak in complete sentences. These books are especially great for students with minimal verbal skills.
